Wo meri taraf yoon chale aa rahe hain

on:“Kaafilaa” (1952) was a Munshi Productions movie. It was directed by Arvind Sen and the star cast of the movie included names like Ashok Kumar, Nalini Jaywant, Motilal, Amrita, Nazir Hussain, Sunalini Devi, Anant Prabhu, Mumtaz, Ranjan etc in it.
Here is a rare song from this obscure movie. It is a soft romantic song sung by Kishore Kumar. Only the audio of this song is available, so one can only guess about the actor on whom this song is picturised. It could well have been picturised on Ashok Kumar, the elder brother of Kishore Kumar.
The song is written by Vrajendra Gaud and music is composed by Husnlal Bhagatram.
Today (13th october) is the day when Ashok Kumar was to celebrate his birthday on 1987, but his younger sibling Kishore Kumar died all of a sudden on this very day, with the result that Ashok Kumar’s birthday would no longer be celebrated by him in the following years.
On this occasion, we in this blog are paying our tributes to Kishore Kumar, the legend of our times.
The lyrics of this rare song are sent to me by Mr Sadanand Kamath, a regular member of our musical bandwagon that this blog has become. I thank him for the lyrics of this rare and lovely song from an obscure movie like this.
Song-Wo meri taraf yoon chale aa rahen hain (Kaafila) (1952) Singer-Kishore Kumar, Lyrics-Vrajendra Gaud, MD-Husnlal Bhagatram
Lyrics(Provided by Sadanand Kamath)
woh meri taraf yoon chale aa rahe hain
woh meri taraf yoon chale aa rahen hain
ki armaan dhadkan se takra rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon
unhen dekhne ko uthee meri nazaren
unhen dekhne ko uthee meri nazaren
mujhe dekhte hi jhuki unki palken
na jaane woh kyun ham se sharmaa rahen hain
na jaane woh kyun ham se sharmaa rahen hain
ki armaan dhadkan se takara rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon
jo kaliyaan khili hain to gul bhi khilenge
jo kaliyaan khili hain to gul bhi khilenge
nigaayen mili hain to dil bhi milenge
ki saanson mein paigaam aa jaa rahen hain
ki saanson mein paigaam aa jaa rahen hain
ki armaan dhadkan se takra rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon
unhen dekh kar dil lagaa rang laane
unhen dekh kar dil lagaa rang laane
hai dil kya kaheen baat maane na maane
ki ham dil ki harkat se ghabraa rahen hain
ki ham dil ki harkat se ghabraa rahen hain
ki armaan dhadkan se takra rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon chale aa rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon chale aa rahen hain
ki armaan dhadkan se takra rahen hain
woh meri taraf yoon

What an absolutely lovely song! I’ve never heard this before and thoroughly enjoyed listening to it right now.
Thank you so much, SadanahdKamathji.

Sadanand ji,
Thanks for this addition, lovely rendition, lovely song.
Atul ji,
Just love the term you have used in this writeup – “MUSICAL BANDWAGON”. What an appropriate metaphor. 😀

This song was set to music by Sajjad Hussain who left the assignment after recording one song.the rest of the songs were composed by Husnlal and Bhagatram whose style was so familiar, you could identify it at once..Sajjad Sahib was very particular about pronunciation,Please note the pronuncation of Kishore Kumar the tune and orchesterisation of this song and you will know who ithe composer is.
Khwaja Sultan Ahmad

This is for the first time I got to know that this song was actually composed by Sajjad Hussain. I heard this song again and again and I think Sajjad Hussain’s style has been ‘written’ all over this song.

Mr.Squarecutatul
There are quite a few songs composed by Sajjad Hussain which are all time great but are not available for sharing. One of those songs is from the film The Last Mughal. Yeh mausam-i-dil o jaan hai hamare sath chalo
in the golden voice of Lata Mangeshkar, probably one of her very best songs. Then three songs from film Lajwanti [starring Madhubala.but was never made] in the beautiful voice of Meena Kapur.
1] kaliyan na khili armanon ki—ro ro ke katti is duniya mein
2]ab kahe bursay badarya
3] jab se ho tum sidhare-o nand ke dulare
There is one song from film Shikwa and two from Preet na jane reet.available from the son of Tallat Mahmood.

Vrajendra gaur ji was a very talented song writer who later stopped writing songs and wrote films like Bimal Roy’s Parineeta, China Town, Sangram [also lyrics], sharmilee, howrah bridge, kati patang, saraswatichandra, the great gambler, teen deviyaan, dulhan wohi jo piya man bhaye, anuraag, geet gaata chal, ankhiyon ke jharokon se, jyoti, etc.\,etc.

I regard this song as one of the best of Kishore Kumar.Later, He used the same soft style of singing for some of his own films.
I was familiar with Vrajendra Gaud as story/script writer but never knew that he had written lyrics for the songs. Probably, this may be the only film for which he wrote lyrics.
Thanks for discussing this song.

Vrajendra Gaud has written songs in a few other movies also, viz ‘Kasturi”(1954), ‘Sardaar” (1955) etc.
