Sapnon ke sheesh mahal mein

A gem of a song from the team of Asad Bhopali and Usha Khanna. The film is Simla Road (1969), one more from the now very familiar Jugal Productions. Producer-director Jugal Kishore was an active film maker in the 60s and 70s, mostly producing B Grade action thrillers and films of intrigue and gangsters. Simla Road is no different. An action thriller starring Dev Kumar, Sarita, KN Singh, Jugal Kishore, Madhumati, Jaishree, Brahma Bhardwaj, Leela Misra, Murad, Mehmood Jr., Mirza Musharraf, Maruti, Dilip Dutt, Mahohar Deepak, the film has some very lovely songs composed by Usha Khanna.
This is the third song from this film on this blog. The scenario is a picnic of a group of girls, led by the leading lady Sarita and another lady friend, namely Jayshree T. These two ladies share the singing part on screen, although the singing voice is only one, that of Suman Kalyanpur, supported by chorus. Beauty of this song is the melody, and the rhythm. The initial part of the song shows the group going on bicycles. The tone that is set by Usha ji is just so enamouring for the situation. The song is an expression of a heart in love for the first time. There is an air of expectation, and waiting. And things to be said, which are not easily said. The verse are just beautiful.
Enjoy this lovely melody from Usha Khanna – a very hummable song.
sapnon ke sheehsmahal mein
phir aaj ujaalaa hai
koi aane waalaa hai
The sparkling palaces of my dreams are brightly lit today
Maybe someone special is expected
phool phool hai mehkaa huaa
mera dil hai behkaa huaa
utth’ti hai jidhar, kehti hai nazar
ye mausam kyaa matwaalaa hai
The lovely fragrance of flowers is spread all around
And my heart is feeling giddy
In all directions that the eyes can see
The ambience and surroundings are exhilirating
ek baat hai dil mein chhupi
jo na labon pe aaye kabhi
main keh na saki, wo sun na sakey
kyaa pyaar ne jaadoo daalaa hai
There is an enigma hidden in my heart
The expressions of which have not yet escaped by lips
Overwhelmed with the magic of love
I am unable to convey this message to him
raat raat bhar jinke liye
jaag jaag ke tadpaa kiye
koi un ke siwaa, achhaa na lagaa
jis din se hosh sambhaalaa hai
The one for whom I have spent many a sleepless nights
He is the one I adore, and no one else
He is the one in my heart since the day I began to understand love

Sudhir ji,
SIMLA ROAD(1969) story was one which was used by many, many people, including Jugal Kishore himself earlier. It was supposed to be a ‘Cloak and dagger’ type movie, having a strong story line, but alas, the Hero was Dev Kumar-with a stony body and a stony face too !
Mr.Kumar,a noted businessman is murdered. When his neighbour reaches his bungalow,he finds Shanker there.Shanker(Dev kumar) is in love with kumar’s sister Veena(Sarita).Sharma(Jugal kishore) accuses Shanker of murder and he is arrested, but Shanker escapes and wounded by police bullet,is found by dancer Rita(Madhumati),who loves him.Bhupat(K.N.Singh)-ex dacoit, catches Shanker.Bhupat and Kumar were thieves but Kumar refuses to give him his share or even recognise him,so Bhupat wants to kill him,but he is murdered by somebody else.Bhupat tortures Shanker for that loot.Veena now hates him.
Now there are twists in the story.Shanker(as expected) happens to be a CBI officer to unearth stolen money. After few more twists, understandings and misunderstandings etc,the murder mystery is solved by Dev Kumar.
The murderer,actually is…..
Earlier 2 songs were posted from this film and both times there were lengthy discussions on different issues.First it was about Usha Khanna’s career.her father Manohar Khanna’s different names and the second time it was about the Heroine Sarita.I found that the story was missing, hence I have given its synopsis now.

Arun ji,
Thanks so much for the summary of the film. You are prompt and precise, and really very helpful in getting an understanding of the storylines and how maybe the songs fit in. Your synopses are a wonderful addition and a great asset to this blog. 🙂
