Hamen pyaar karne na degaa zamaana

Posted on: November 7, 2011

“Pyaar Ki Baazi” (1967) is a by now forgotten movie. This B grade movie was a Salim Productions movie. It was directed by S. J. Keshwani and A. K. Chalukya. The movie had Vijaya Choudhary, Jagdeep, Anant Kumar, Paro, Anuradha etc in it.

The movie had Jagdeep as the hero. Unfortunately he was not hero material by any stretch of imagination.

Here is a duet song from this movie which is sung by Rafi and Geeta Dutt. It is picturised on Jagdeep and Vijaya Chaudhary. This song is a forgotten gem. But this song is better heard than seen, unfortunately. It is a great song which was wasted on a movie that did not deserve a song of this quality.

Indeewar is the lyricist. The music director is a new name for this blog. He is called Jimmy. I have no idea about him. I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us more about this music director.

Song-Hamen pyaar karne na dega zamaanaa (Pyaar Ki Baazi) (1967) Geeta Dutt, Rafi, Lyrics-Indeewar, MD-Jimmy

Lyrics

ho ho ho
ho ho ho
ho ho ho

ho ho ho
ho ho ho

hamen pyaar karne
na dega zamaanaa
agar ho sakey to
mujhe bhool jaanaa
mujhe bhool jaanaa
tera pyaar hi to
meri zindagi hai
ke aasaan nahin hai
tujhe bhool jaanaa
tujhe bhool jaanaa

hamen pyaar karne
na dega zamaanaa
agar ho sakey to
mujhe bhool jaanaa
mujhe bhool jaanaa
tera pyaar hi to
meri zindagi hai
ke aasaan nahin hai
tujhe bhool jaanaa
tujhe bhool jaanaa

paraaye bhi hokar
tumhaare rahenge
nazar mein yoon hi
ye nazaare rahenge

nazaaron mein kyaa hai
bahaaron mein kyaa hai
agar tum nahin
chaand taaron mein kyaa hai
yahi yaad to hai dilon ka khazaanaa
hamen pyaar karne
na dega zamaanaa
agar ho sake to
mujhe bhool jaanaa
mujhe bhool jaanaa
tera pyaar hi to
meri zindagi hai
ke aasaan nahin hai
tujhe bhool jaanaa
tujhe bhool jaanaa

bhulaa do muhabbat ki
tum ye kahaani
ke bachpan ko jaise
bhulaa de jawaani
jo mit jaaye dil se
wo ulfat nahin hai
hamen aise jeene ki
hasrat nahin hai

qasam tumko meri
na khud ko mitaanaa
tera pyaar hi to
meri zindagi hai
ke aasaan nahin hai
tujhe bhool jaanaa
tujhe bhool jaanaa

hamen pyaar karne
na dega zamaanaa
agar ho sake to
mujhe bhool jaanaa
mujhe bhool jaanaa

qasam tumko meri
na khud ko mitaanaa

Atul ji,
PYAR KI BAZI(1967) was undoubtedly a very boring picture. There were 2 directors, namely K.Malik and Shaukat J.Keshwani.As such the story was of very poor imagination, the selection of lead pair was poorer and the direction was the poorest.looks like both the directors independently had their stories and later they were somehow merged.Overall.it saw the dust of time.
But,the music was very good .The music director JIMMY was originally an assistant to Khemchand Prakash and was quite talented. He gave music to some B and C grade films in the 50s and 60s.He gave music to 11 movies as follows:
Awara Shahzadi-56(with Naashad)
Nek khatoon-59
Shrimatiji-52(with Basant prakash and s.Mohinder)
Shere Baghdad-57
miss chaalbaaz-61
Pathan-62. There is a strange record in this movie. There were 7 songs in the film and a total of 9 Music directors gave music in this one film. They are Fakir Mohd,Jimmy,Asar,Shambhu,Duttaraj,Rajbhushan,David,Brijbhushan and Shyambabu.
Tarzan and Gorilla-63
duniya hai dilwalonki-66
pyar ki Baazi-67
Tarzan in Fairyland-68 and
Kanoon aur Sazaa-1984.

The story of Pyar ki Bazi is woven around 3 friends,Raju(Jagdeep),Deep(Anant Kumar) and Sagar.Raju, son of rich Girdharilal loves Bimla(Vijaya Chaudhari).Their engagement is done in childhood.
Deep studies in foreign. His father dies leaving property to Deep and sister Kamala or the survivor. His property is managed by uncle Girdharilal, who is a crook and kidnaps Kamala.Deep returns to India to marry Rani(Anuradha) as per father’s will but his friend Sagar loves Rani.Deep is arrested for sister Kamala’s murder.Girdharilal wants Raju to marry Rani, for a hefty dowry, and cancells Bimla’s engagement. Her father dies with shock.
All this mess is somehow cleaned by the end of the film,by which time the unfortunate viewer is almost in coma with all these calamities at a time.luckily viewer survives with an oath never ever to see such a film again in the interest of his good health.

I think I am the only person on earth who loves Jagdeep (at least up until the 1980s) 😦

I love Jagdeep as a comedian, but not as a hero.

I also loved his comedian roles, but in Bhabhi (Balraj Sahni) he was good as a second lead.

In US, movies of this nature somtimes acquire a cult status, and have huge success! “Rocky Horror Picture Show” comes to mind, and any number of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, or “Nightmare on Elm Street” genre movies.

Woooow … What a recall … Exquisite choice !!
I’m totally stumped to listen to this dream sequence duet after sooooo many years …. This kind of uploads are of ”A” grade in my view, in such a forum wherein you are forced to boyishly reconnect your neurons to the completely forgotten melodies.

Rafi sahab even at the bass level is sooo melodious – as always, we often listen him at much higher scales. Geeta Dutt even looks in a different mood here … that’s the beauty of this duet.
James Singh urf Jimmy as MD here further refreshes the melodious works of least popular or forgotten composers.
And rightly said, Jagdeep by any stretch of imagination doesn’t appear to have acted as a hero in films but he did & another good example is ‘Punarmilan’.
Thanks for this exquisite revival !
