Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Kitna Rangeen Hai Ye Chaand Sitaaron Ka Samaa

Posted on: November 22, 2011

Most of the songs discussed in this blog are movie songs that were part of some movies. In some rare cases, we also discuss songs that were excluded from the released movie, either at the time of release or later.

There are some cases when the movie itself remained unfinished and was shelved. In most cases, nothing much was heard about these movies and their songs. But on some rare cases, the audio of songs from such movies became available. this blog has discussed a few such songs.

Then there are even more rare cases when the video footage of song from some unreleased movies somehow managed to become available. For instance, there was a movie called “Film Hi Film” which was basically a documentary on the history of Hindi movie. This movie showe footage from some rare movies, including shelved movies.

One could get a rare glimpse into some unfinished movie from “Film Hi Film”.

Here is a video clip of a song from an unreleased movie called “Picnic”. This movie, not to be confused with the movie called “Picnic” (1966) had Guru Dutt and Sadhana. From the picturisation, it is clear that the picturisation took place in late 1950s or early 1960s.

This song is a duet which is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Rafi. The song is picturised on Sadhana and Guru Dutt.

N Datta is the music director. The lyricist is not known. I request our knowledgeable readers to add more details in case details are available.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

aaa la la laa

kitna rangeen hai ye
chaand sitaaron ka samaan
aap takte hi nahin
aap ki aadat kya hai
is damakte huye chehre ki chamak kaafi hai
mujhko in chaand aur sitaaron ki zaroorat kya hai

kuchh to mausam ki adaaon ka asar le lijey
mehki mehki si hawaaon ka asar le lijey
aap ki reshmi zulfon ki mehak kaafi hai
aap ki reshmi zulfon ki mehak kaafi hai
mehke mehke se nazaaron ki zaroorat kya hai
aap takte hi nahin
aap ki aadat kya hai
kitna rangeen hai

is fiza mein hai mohabbat ke ishaare kitne
dil ke daaman se lipat’te hain sahaare kitne
jo idhar bhi hai udhar bhi wo kasak kaafi
jo idhar bhi hai udhar bhi wo kasak kaafi
ab hamen aur sahaaron ki zaroorat kya hai
aap takte hi nahin
aap ki aadat kya hai
is damakte huye chehre ki chamak kaafi hai
mujhko in chaand aur sitaaron ki zaroorat kya hai
kitna rangeen samaan

Atul ji,
PICNIK was a movie of 1964.This film was shelved because the Hero Guru Dutt committed suicide on 10-10-1964.By that time the film was shot only 50%.
Few songs were recorded and released. All songs were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.
Incidently, one more film Dulha Dulhan also was shelved in 1964,but no details are found.

Thanks Atulji for posting this song. I was not aware of this song or movie either. I was under impression that while making the movie, Baharen Phir Bhi Aayegi (Dharmendra, Mala Sinha, Tanuja) Guru Dutt died. So, his brother Atmaram(?) finished the movie. May for this movie he was just a producer/director not a actor.

Khyati ji,

About the film ‘Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi’. The project was started in 1964, under the banner of Guru Dutt films. Guru Dutt was the producer and director. The original cast of the film had Guru Dutt himself as the hero. After his passing away in October 1964, the project was in limbo for sometime. Partial shooting of the film was already done. Then Guru Dutt’s brother, Atmaram took over the responsibility to complete the film. Dharmendra was brought in as the male lead, and all the scenes already shot with Guru Dutt were re-done, and the film was finally released with Dharmendra as the hero in 1966.

And Khyati ji,

Welcome to the blog, and the team of contributors. Glad to have you on board this “musical bandwagon” as Atul ji likes to call this team. 🙂

Thanks for the detail info. I feel lucky/proud to be part of this “musical bandwagon”. I am just like the squiral who helped Ramji carry little mud on her shoulder to build the biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig bridge from Rameshwaram (south tip of India) to Lanka. In other words, just helping Atulji with his work.

Khyati ji,

Just adore and appreciate the similie of the squirrel you mentioned in your comment. 🙂

Btw, forgot to add in my comment on ‘Bahaaren Phir Bhi Aayengi’ that the final re-done version of the film was directed by Shahid Latif.

I have seen the movie Dulha Dulhan with Raj Kapoor and Sadhana. Arunkumarji, are you talking about the same movie? Can you clarify it for my knowledge? Thanks.

Mrs.Bhatt ji,
This 1964 Dulha Dulhan is different .As I said earlier,no information was available about the cast or reasons for the film getting shelved.
Raj-Sadhana film Dulha Dulhan was already ready and released in 1964,while the other film was still in the making in 1964,when it met its untimely demise.

The tune of this duet is very much similar to “Aj to tere bina nind nahi ayegi” from film “Nai umar ki nai fasal” (1965) so Roshan copy the
tune from N. Dutta?
Well this film or song was never released,
so the question is how could Roshan have done this?

I had the exact same thought as I listened to this song, which I had never heard before, despite 1966 falling in my “Hindi songs mania” period! My very first thought was that it sounded remarkably similar to “Aaj to tere bina neend nahin aayegi …”, so I thought the two films may have had the same music director, but it looks like one had Roshan and one had N. Dutta, so how did that happen?
Guru Dutt looked great and so did Sadhana, in this clip.

A big YES, she is absolutely stunning without her trademark fringe and only film she did with Guru Dutt.

Arun ji,

My query is also the same as Khyati ji has posted. ‘Dulha Dulhan’ (with Raj Kapoor and Sadhna) was released in 1964. This blog already has 4 songs from that film.

Is there another film with that name (maybe different year) that did not get released?

Sudhir ji,
I have replied about this to mrs.Bhatt please.
I tried very much to get the details, but no info at all, except that it was shelved half way in 1964.

DO U HAVE MORE SONGS FROM

this beautiful song is total 4.02 minutes or so

here is the lyrics of the remaining part :

इस फिज़ा में हैं मुहब्बत के इशारे कितने
दिल के दामन से लिपटते हैं सहारे कितने
जो इधर भी हैं उधर भी वो कसक काफी हैं -२
अब हमें और सहारों की ज़रुरत क्या हैं
आप थकते ही नहीं आप की आदत क्या हैं
इस चमकते हुए चेहेरे की चमक काफी हैं
मुझ को चाँद और सितारों की ज़रुरत क्या हैं
कितना रंगीन समा…………

Audio clip of the full song :

Just chanced upon this song. Yes, it’s very much like the Nai Umar Ki Nai Fasal song.

Atul, just to keep our stats correct, like Arunji has mentioned, the year should be tagged as 1964 instead of 1960.

Also, Majrooh Sultanpuri needs to get credit for the lyrics.

this is the link to Film Hi Film. at 0:37 we see thge details of this movie “Picnic”. it says it was produced and directed by R.S.Tara and lyrcis is by Sahir with N.Dutta as music director
thought i will share it here after reading Sudhirji’s post on Guru Dutt

Dear All,

The post has now been updated to include the longer audio version of this song.

Also, based on the inputs from Peevesie’s Mom, the name of the lyricist is updated as Sahir Ludhianvi.
