Qismat hamaare saath hai jalne waale jalaa karen

Posted on: November 24, 2011

“Khidki” (1948) is a movie which was produced by Arvind and Anand, and it was directed by P L Santoshi. The star cast included names like Rehana, Jawahar Kaul, V. H. Desai, Kalpana, Radha Krishnan, Leela Misra, Ramsingh, Mumtaz Ali, Tiwari etc.

The movie, as well as the songs of this movie have been forgotten with time, which is natural seeing that the movie is over six decades old. But getting to listen to the songs of this movie is good fun, especially because the songs sound different and fun.

Here is a light hearted song from this movie. This song is sung by Rafi, C Ramchandra and chorus. P L Santoshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra.

PS-Recently I came across a farmaish of another song from this movie, viz. “aye ho sanvariya, jao bajariya…jai bolo mahatma Gandhi ki “. Lyrics of this song appear quite interesting, but unfortunately I have not been able to find that song and instead, I was able to come across some other songs of the movie, such as the song under discussion. I request our knowledgeable readers to point me towards the links etc of this song so that we may be able to discuss this elusive (but available) song too.

PS-This song had two versions. Version I was sung by sung by Chitalkar, Mohammed Rafi, Sajjan and chorus. The second version of the song was sung by Shamshad Begum and Mohantara.

Audio – Part I (Rafi, C Ramchandra, GM Sajan)

Audio – Part II (Shamshad Begum, Mohantara, Lata, Chorus)

Song-Kismat hamaare saath hai jalne waale jalaa karen (Khidki) (1948) Singers-Rafi, C Ramchandra, G M Sajan/Shamshad Begum, Mohantara, Lata, Lyrics-P L Santoshi, MD-C Ramchandra
Chorus

This song was a rage in my childhood days.
I have 78 RPM Columbia record with me of this song. There are two versions of this song – the one which has now been discussed here, is sung by Chitalkar, Mohammed Rafi, Sajjan and chorus. The second version of the song is sung by Shamshad Begum and Mohantara. Unfortunately, I can’t play the record as I don’t have record player. If I remember correctly, the lyrics of both the versions are different.
The Columbia record gives credit to Arvind Anand as lyricist of both the versions of the song.
I don’t have the record of ‘Jai bolo Mahatma Gandhi ki’ but I knew of this song as my mother used to sing this song quite often.

Thanks for this information. Arvind and Anand are the producers of this movie. I think Arvind and Anand must be some relatives of P L Santoshi, director of the movie, and lyrics may have been actually written by P L Santoshi.

I felt that Aravind-Anand was a pseudo name for P L Santoshi.

The alphabet “Q” is right for Qismat.

apni ‘manhoos shakl’ le
hamko na wo dikha karen

Words like shakl, mushkil, shak etc. ‘K’ is appropriate.

Atul ji,
KHIDKI-1948 was a very entertaining film.
Firstly,it was produced by P.L.Santoshi under the banner of ARVIND AND ANAND FILMS,BOMBAY.Arvind and Anand were NOT the producers. However, since this was the only film produced under this banner, your guess that Arvind-Anand may be PL’s relatives-probably his sons-has a validity.
Secondly, what Prakashji says about 2 versions of this song -one by a male group and the other by a female group -is correct.
Thirdly, the above song is sung by Rafi,Chitalkar and G.M.Sajan and NOT Sajjan.Sajjan was not even in the film.Further Sajjan is never on record to have sung any song, while G.M.Sajan was a regular singer those days.I suggest,Prakashji should check the name again.
Fourthly,Khidki was a feast of songs. It had 10 songs and C.Ramchandra had used as many as 9 singers in this film, namely,Lalita Deolkar,Mohantara,Shamshad,Lata,Geeta, Amirbai,G.M.Sajan,Chitalkar and Mohd.Rafi.
In addition to the song in ‘Farmaish’,there is another song-“Hum Hind ki hai naariyan, jalati hui chingariyan” sung by Mohantara
Ajinkya(later Talapade),which had also become very popular.

sorry for a lapse.
In the second point, the name should be Kamat ji and NOT Prakash ji.
Regret the error.
