Dilli se rail gaadi chhuk chhuk aayegi

Posted on: November 28, 2011

“Suhaag Sindoor”(1961) is the kind of movie which is unremarkable, does some modest business and is then forgotten with time. if such movies get remembered in future, then it is mainly because of some crazy 🙂 people who dig up movies like this in search of some nice songs in them.

Here is a summary of this movie from Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our in house expert on old and obscure movies.

SUHAG SINDOOR(1961),a Chandra films production, produced by the owner Chandra Desai, was directed by the popular southern duo of Krishnan Panju,in a typical south Indian style. It had lot of twists, subplots and coincidences to make the matters complicated and everything fits into places like a jigsaw, paving a way for the customary group photo in the end.

Ratan(Manoj kumar)is son of a moneylender-sawkar-Mr.Dayashanker(Kanhaiyalal) and also Air Force Pilot. When he starts on home leave,Ramu(Balraj Sahni),an Army Officer gives a Briefcase to him to be given to his sister in the same town. Ratan loses the address paper enroute and is unable to deliver the B/C. Ramu’s sister dies without medicines leaving her young daughter Ratna alone. In due course of time Ratan falls in love with, now grown up,Ratna(Mala Sinha) and they marry against Dayashankar’s will and get thrown out of the house. They happily live elsewhere(No silly questions like, what about Ratan’s Air force job etc.please). Ratna, now named Chanda is pregnant. Dayashanker lies to her that Ratan does not want her anymore and lies to Ratan that Chanda is dead.(They naively believe all this) and Ratan is ready to marry Nalini(Padma Chavan) daughter of a Lawyer(Ulhas).
Meanwhile,Ramu comes back form war, wounded, hospitalised and recovered, only to find out that sis is dead and niece is lost. Ramu stays with Gulabi(Shubha Khote)and pulls Rikshaws for livelyhood( Hey,what about Army Pensions etc ?). Chanda delivers baby, gives to Golabi and attempts suicide,is saved by Budhist Monks.

Ramu finds her, knows all details and is ready to kill Ratan on the day of his wedding. After many melodramatic scenes, revealations etc,the puzzle is solved and evrybody is reasonably satisfied with answers.

With the description of the movie out of our way, let us discuss a lesser known song from this movie. Picturisation shows this movie to be a duet which is sung by Rafi and Lata and picturised on Manoj Kumar and Mala Sinha. Having married each other rebelling aginst their respective families, Mala Sinha is expecting their child and is hoping that Manoj Kumar’s family could well accept her as their bahu and their expected child (that too a son) could well be born in a haweli rather than in her modest home.

The first stanza is sung by Rafi. The remaining stanzas are sung by Lata. I wonder whether this song is required to be treated as two solos or one duets. I have not seen this song listed in the list of Rafi Lata duets so this could welle be a case of two solo songs. i request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.

Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi

munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi
Dilli se rail gaadi

Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi

dekhegaa daddy
chaand ka tukda
pyaar se choomega
munne ka mukhdaa
dekhegaa daddy
chaand ka tukda
pyaar se choomega
munne ka mukhdaa
bhoolongi uss din main sab dukhdaa
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi

le ke wo aayenge
motor pumpum
baith ke ji mein
ghoomenge sab ham
le ke wo aayenge
motor pumpum
baith ke ji mein
ghoomenge sab ham
chhedenge mil-jul khushiyon ki sargam
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi

daddy ne tere
aane se pehle
chhod ke mujh ko
jaane se pehle
daddy ne tere
aane se pehle
chhod ke mujh ko
jaane se phele
ye hi kahahaa thha thukraane se pehle
Dilli se rail gaadi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
chhuk chhuk aayegi
munne ke daddy ji ko laayegi
