Jab tum chale jaaoge to yaad bahut aaoge

Posted on: December 4, 2011

It has been mentioned by several readers that Dev Anand appeared almost immortal to them and it was inconceivable to them that he could ever die. But time and tide waits for none and everyone has to succumb some day. Dev Anand breathed his last on 3rd of december 2011 at the age of 88. He led an active life till the end. His zest for life and his youthful exuberance is something that is difficult to emulate for most people. With time , he had lost weight and had shrunk as was bound to happen, but his mental faculties continues to be sharp and he could still walk on his feet. Most people can only dream of such physical fitness if they ever live up to that age.

I like to remeber Dev Anand as the dashing hero of B& W movies like “Solva Saal” (1958), C I D (1956) , “Tere Ghar Ke Saamne” (1963) etc. He then began his second innings as a hero in colour movies beginning with “Guide” (1965). Starting from “Johny Mera Naam” (1970), he began to act with heroines nearly 15-20 years younger than him.

1970s saw Dev Anand acting opposite younger actresses like Hema Malini,Zeenat Aman,Raakhi,Yogita Bali,Tina Munim etc.

In “Bullet” (1976), Dev Anand acted opposite Parveen Babi. This movie was written and directed by Vijay Anand. The movie had Dev Anand, Parveen Babi, Kabir Bedi, Dr Shreeram Laagoo, Rakesh Roshan, Jyoti Bakshi, Sonia Sahni,Jagdeep,Ranjan, Murad, Mohan Sherry etc in it.

The movie as well as its songs have been by and large forgotten by now, and that is a loss to music lovers who have not had the opportunity to listen to the songs of this movie.

Here is a song from “Bullet” (1976) which is a forgotten gem and which very appropriately expresses the feelings of fans who are going to miss Dev Saab.

This song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Parveen Babi, Dev Anand and others. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist and music is composed by R D Burman.

This song also happens to be the 5100th song of this blog. So here is this century song of this blog which is this blog’s tribute to the evergreen hero, the one and the only Dev Anand.

Song-Jab tum chale jaaoge to yaad bahut aaoge (Bullet)(1976) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Anand Bakshi, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics

jab tum chale jaaoge
to yaad bahut aaoge
tum chale jaaoge
yaad bahut aaoge
jab tum chale jaaoge
to yaad bahut aaoge
dil behlaane ki koi
tadbeer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni
tasveer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni
tasveer dete jaanaa

meri aankhon ne ik khwaab dekhaa hai
jaise kaanton mein gulaab dekhaa hai
kisi chehre pe naqaab dekhaa hai
meri aankhon ne ik khwaab dekhaa hai
tum mere is khwaab ki taabeer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni tasveer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni tasveer dete jaanaa

aisaa naa ho main majboor ho jaaun
aake paas tumse door ho jaaun
sheeshe ki tarah main choor ho jaaun
aisaa naa ho main majboor ho jaaun
mere haathon se meri
taqdeer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni
tasveer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni
tasveer dete jaanaa

chand log dhokhebaaz hote hain
unke dil mein kuchh raaz hote hain
dillagi ke bhi andaaz hote hain
chand log dhokhebaaz hote hain
qasmon vaadon ki koi zanjeer dete jaanaa
aaj mujhe tum apni
tasveer dete jaanaa
tum chale jaaoge to yaad bahut aaoge
jab tum chale jaaoge to yaad bahut aaoge
