Greetings all atulites, and best wishes for a wonderful 2012.
May this year bring all the good tidings you expect to hear
May this year bring blessings of good health to all in family
May this year bring cherishing moments of joy and delight each day
May this year bring new friendships and strengthen old ones
May this year bring plentiful prosperity to your household
May your time and space be filled with music of your liking 😀
And the rhythm of days become the melody of life Throughout the year
And here is also wishing this blog to measure many more milestones
May this musical bandwagon continue to press on this musical journey together

. . . tamannaa hai ye saath chalte rahen hum
. . . na beete kabhi ye safar. . .

Presenting a song from Do Jasoos (1975), that so appropriately sets the tone for getting into the new year. Especially the lines

. . . jo aaj hanse, hanstaa sadaa rahegaa. . .
(the smile and laughter of today will be sustained for ever).

Short note on the film itself. Mid seventies was the time when the thespian Raj Kapoor and the jubilee kumar Rajendra Kumar were kind of done with running around the trees and wooing young heroines. This film was kind of the last display of heroic energy, bringing these two stalwarts together once again, reliving the times of ‘Sangam’ from a decade earlier. With a tongue in cheek brandish, the car these two use in this film is named ‘Radha’, the screen name of Vijayantimala in the film Sangam. The film is produced and directed by Naresh Kumar under the banner of Dimple Films. If I remember correctly, Dimple Films is the home grown company of Rajendra Kumar, and Naresh Kumar is a close relative. The film was also the debut of the acting careers of Shailendra Singh (already established as a singer of some note, thanks to film Bobby (1973)), and newcomer Bhavna Bhatt. The rest of the star cast was a notable crew from the old guard including, Prem Chopra, Aruna Irani, Kamal Kapoor, Manmohan Krishan, Farida Jalaal, Alka, Sanjanaa, Sunder, Ram Avtaar, Ram Mohan, Asit Sen, Randhir, Jagdish Raj, Appi Umrani, Dulari, V Gopal, Madhu Apte, Ratna, Moolchand, Ratan Gaurang, Bachan Singh etc. I do not remember much about the story line, but do remember the reviews in newspapers that advised these two ageing lions to hang up their young man boots and get on to senior roles.

The lyrics of this song are credited jointly to Hasrat Jaipuri and Ravindra Jain, and the music composition is by Ravindra Jain himself. The singing voices are those of Mukesh and Mohammed Rafi, with a supporting chorus.

The song is apparently a party song, and the words indicate it to be a new year’s party. The key theme of the song is very positive and uplifting. The singers suggest this is the day to be happy and to enjoy, and one who would smile and laugh and enjoy today, would be blessed with happiness and laughter and revelry for all days to come.

And that is exactly the greetings this message is bringing. Make sure to enjoy today, and remember

. . . jo aaj hanse, hanstaa sadaa rahegaa. . .
(the smile and laughter of today will be sustained for ever).

kaam logon ke bigdey banaanaa
yaaron dhandha hai apnaa puraanaa

jo aaj gaaye gaataa sadaa rahegaa
saal mubaarak saahib ji
saal mubaarak saahib ji
lo lo
aaj piyo hans ke
do ghoont somras ke
ke saal bhar iss kaa nashaa rahega
jo aaj piye peeta sadaa rahegaa
jo aaj piye peeta sadaa rahegaa
