Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ae sanam aaj ye qasam khaayen

Posted on: January 15, 2012

It is one occasion for this blog that I look forward to quite eagerly, the way a motorist on a highway looks forward to the next milestone. For this blog, every 100th song serves as a milestone, and the milestone that we touch with this song is the mark of 5300 posts !

This latest century has been a slow affair, as it has come in 20 days, at a slowish rate of 5 songs per day. But the good thing is that we do not stop at the milestones rather we zip past it and continue our journey.

This is the first century of this new year, and this also gives me an opportunity to take a look back at the year that just went by. It was a year in which we made considerable progress in the blog. 1818 songs were added in the year to the blog and it was during this year that we touched the magical 5000 songs landmark.

It was in 2011 that the blog slowly but imperceptibly became a collaborative effort of likeminded music lovers. Now, many of the songs that are being discussed are contributed by regulars of this blog, in the form of writeups, lyrics, farmaishes etc. Moreover, our regulars also contribute invaluable information concerning the songs and the artists involved in the songs. The information being added by readers here is often new original information which was not available on internet earlier. Contributors of this blog are enriching this blog and they are helping build up a song catalogue that will become a definitive reference for music lovers in future.

Some of our regulars must be regarded as legends in the field of reseaching Hindi movie music. I must acknowledge their contribution. Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our inhouse walking encyclopaedia of information about obscure Hindi movies and music is one who is a legend among us, and I am sure that some day others will also acknowledge this fact.

The contribution of Mr Sudhir Kapur has been mindboggling. In the year 2011, he almost singlehandedly took up the project of covering all K L Saigal songs and he burnt midnight oil for several months to achieve this goal. As a result, this blog now boasts of each and every K L Saigal song (movie as as as non movie songs) that are available.

In addition, he had also helped discover several songs that were presumed extinct. This is no mean feat. This amounts to rewriting the history of Hindi movie music.

We can take pride in the fact that this blog is known to a few legends, viz Mr Harmandir Singh (Geetkosh fame), Mr Surjit Singh (a legendary collector of Hindi movie music) etc. Mr Sudhir Kapur in fact have personally met and even hosted many such legends. He has now taken up the onerous task of digitising the Geetkosh of Mr Harmadir Singh.

We also have among us many regulars whose contributions are highly valuable to the blog. They send me lyrics- in fact they have sent me so many of them that I am unable to cope. This is a welcome headache to have, because at any moment I have hundreds of such contributions available with me. These lyrics are enormous time savers for me as I can devote this time for some other blog related activity. The regular contributors of lyrics to this blog, viz Atif M, Prakashchandra, nahm, Sanadanad Kamath,Khyati Bhatt have together contributed hundreds of lyrics of great songs. On quite a few occasions, I found that I as well as many others had not heard these songs before. These contributors also help fill up the gap in the list of songs- songs that I thought were already discussed, but I was wrong.

Here is the 5300 th song of the blog. This song is from “Jahaan Ara” (1964). As many as seven songs from this movie have already been discussed and it is unimaginable that one movie should have even more songs in it worth discussing, but that is how it is ! And it is a song that belongs to the category of “How come this song was not discussed before ! “.

Here is this fantastic song from “Jahaan Ara” (1964). It is a duet sung by Lata and Talat Mehmood. The song is picturised on Mala Sinha and Bharat Bhushan. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

What a fantastic composition ! A befitting 5300th song for the blog, I would say. Enjoy this song. Here is hoping that our bandwagon of musical journey will continue to roll on and on at a good pace, and that we will continue to add more and more likeminded fellow enthusiasts to our bandwagon.

hooooo
aaaaaaa
hmmmm
ae sanam
hmmmm
ae sanam

aye sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
aye sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
mud ke ab dekhne ka naam na len
pyaar ki waadiyon mein kho jaayen
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
faasle pyaar ke mitaa daalen
aur duniya se door ho jaayen

ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen

jis taraf jaayen bahaaron ke salaam aayenge
jis taraf jaayen bahaaron ke salaam aayenge
aasmaanon se bhi rangeen payaam aayenge

tera jalwaa hai jahaan
meri jannat hai wahaan
tere honthon ki hansi
sau bahaaron ka samaan
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
faasle pyaar ke mitaa daalen
aur duniya se door ho jaayen

ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen

apna imaan faqat apni mohabbat hogi
har ghadi ishq ki ek tazaa qayaamat hogi
dekh kar rang-e-wafaa
muskuraayega khudaa
aur sochega zaraa
ishq kyun paida kiya

ishq kyun paida kiya
ishq kyun paida kiya

o o o o o
ae sanam
ae sanam
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
mud ke ab dekhne ka naam na len
pyaar ki waadiyon mein kho jaayen
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
faasle pyaar ke mitaa daalen
aur duniya se door ho jaayen
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen
ae sanam aaj yeh qasam khaayen

Atul ji,
Congratulations on the first century of 2012 and completion of 5300 songs.
It is an unimaginable feat for any individual to have achieved in a short span of about 3 1/2 years.
Truely, you are doing an yeoman service to the OHFM lovers, and I am glad that for last some time,I am in the band-wagon with you, trying hard to keep pace with you all.
After I joined here,I think the real contribution was from Sudhirji and you together when you both strived hard to discover, collect and present ALL available Saigal songs-FS and NFS- with appropriate write ups.Lovers of music from other countries will for ever be grateful to Sudhir ji for his efforts on Translations and explanations of the urdu Gazals and poems.
All in all, this has been an enjoyable travel together and I wish that in coming years too,the blog will achieve further landmarks.
