Dil ka qaraar le gayaa

This article is written by Sudhir, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.
This find is simply exciting. A song that is foot tapping, and very hummable, full of delight. Another one, heard long, long back, and then lost. Just bumped into it today, and just could not wait to write a post. The birthday of Suman Kalyanpur has just passed on 28th Jan. I would rather send in a belated greetings than wait for another year. This song is just too good to wait for that long.
All the information here is what I came to know today only. The film is ‘Bhootnath’ from 1963, released under the banner of Sevak Films, and directed by Nanabhai Bhatt. The list of actors is as follows – Ranjan, Vijaya Choudhary, Mohan Choti, Rajan Haksar, Jeevankala, Ulhaas, Kundan, Prem Sagar, Daan Singh, Lal Bahadur, Dalda, Roshanlal, Kumar Sahu, Lakshmi Chhaayaa, Chanda, Amir, Daaud, Shaidaa, Sunder, Nazir Kashmiri etc. Given that the lead actors are Ranjan and Vijaya Choudhary, my guess is that this is another B/C grade stunt action drama. The creators of this song are both new names to me. Lyrics are by Keshav Trivedi and the music composition is by Vedpal Verma. The film has lyrics written by three poets, the other two are Anjaan and Yusuf. The singing voice is that of Suman Kalyanpur.
The magic is in the music that includes a very imaginative use of trumpet, rather the trombone, as part of orchestral arrangements. I assure you, the tune will pick up your spirits, right from the first bars. I have already heard it multiple times since I found it earlier today. Enjoy this song, from a heart that is lost in first love – simply brings spring in the air.
dil ka qaraar le gayaa, ek ladka bhola bhaala sa
meettha meettha pyaar de gayaa, ek ladka bhola bhaala sa
An innocent faced young man
Has stolen away the peace of my heart
And left me with a sweet feeling of love
jab jab aankh ladee, jhuk jhuk ke nazar ne salaam kiyaa
dhak dhak dil dhadkaa, haathon ne kalejaa thhaam liyaa
aahen beshumaar de gayaa, ek ladka bhola bhaala sa
Whenever the eyes met
My glance dropped down in greetings
The thumping heart, I had to hold it back with my hands
He left me sighing for him, over and over
This innocent faced young man
duniya ki nazron se koi kab tak nazar bachaayegaa
chhup chhup kar zaalim koi kab tak teer chalaayegaa
oye dhokhaa har baar de gayaa, ek ladka bhola bhaala sa
I wonder for how long
Can he hide from the prying eyes of this world
And for how long will this heartless one
Strike me with his askance glances from a distance
(So far)
He has eluded and evaded me every time
This innocent faced young man

Sudhir ji/Atul ji/Prakash ji,
VEDPAL VARMA was from Rajasthan,a sindhi by birth. He struggled very hard to get into the music industry. He worked as a story writer and lyricist before becoming a Music Director.
His first film was Parichay-1954 along with Sailesh Dave.Later he gave music to-
Aai phirse bahar-60,Bheema mera Haathi-73,Gunehgar-67,Kora Badan-74,Maya sundari-67,Oh bewafa-80,Piya ka ghar-97,Bhootnath-63,Humjunglee hain-73,mera pati meri zindagi-93,Sant Tukaram-65 and Wafadar-76(story also).
He is the same person who gave music to The right and the wrong in 1970,a film made in West Indies, about which hardly anybody knows in India. He did the music in India and it was taken to West Indies.
He has written Lyrics for Bheema mera haathi,Sunehri nagin-63,Bachhe mere saathi-72,Maa,Behan aur Biwi-73 etc.

After reading the title of a movie, “Bheema Mera Haathi-73” in Arunji’s list, I am sure our Atulji will be thinking of producing a movie “Bhholey & Chhotey mere Saathi-2012”. Just kidding.

Arunji,
Why the name of this movie is “Bhootnath”? After listening to the song, sounds like the main lead is an innocent “bhola bhala” person. Reminds me of Guru Dutt as a Bhootnaath in “sahib Biwi aur Ghulam”.

Khyati ji,
To know about Bhootnath, you will have to see the film.
In the film, the Hero disguises himself in black robe, troubles bad people and helps the needy and good people etc. and since no one knows who he is,he is called BHOOTNATH.This is a story set in the state of Preetnagar, involving lot of intrigues and too many characters.

Oh! So, that’s the secret of “Bhootnath”. I will see if I can find the DVD on line, or else I have to wait till I visit India. Dhanyawad Arunji for making this suspense movie, a “thriller” one for me. 🙂

Film Maalik was an unreleased film, and its songs were recorded in 1954.The name of the composer is correct. He is originally Vedpal Devichand Varma.
Girl from india-1982,featuring Kabir Bedi,Sana Suri,Shailendra singh etc,the name of the composer is Vedpal Varma. On some internet sites,it might have been shown wrongly as Sharma.

I also wonder whether Vedpal and Vedpal Verma are same. Vedpal Verma has also composed music for a West Indian movie . One Hindi song from that movie is posted in this blog ( O mere hamraahi kyun tera man ghabraaye(The right and the wrong))
