on:“Challenge” (1964) is a movie as obscure as any. This movie was a Movie Centre Production. It was directed by B J Patel. It is not clear who played the lead role in this movie. The sketchy information available about this movie suggest that Ranjan, Chitra, Maruti, Polson, Tiwari, etc figured in this movie.
Here is a song from this movie which is as obscure as the movie itself. The song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and Mukesh. Prem Dhawan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Ajit Merchant.
Only the audio of this song is available and nothing is known about the picturisation of this song. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on this movie as well as on the picturisation of this song.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
Song-Main bhi hoon majboor saajan dil bhi hai majboor (Challenge)(1964) Singers-Asha Bhonsle, Mukesh, Lyrics-Prem Dhawan, MD-Ajit Merchant
Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
main bhi hoon majboor saajan
dil bhi hai majboor
main bhi hoon majboor saajan
dil bhi hai majboor
phir bhi pyaar ke maare do dil
reh na sakenge door
do dil reh na sakenge door
main bhi hoon majboor saajan
dil bhi hai majboor
door thhin ankhiyaan tumse lekin
dil thha paas tumhaare
ham bhi kabhi na bhoole tumko
ham bhi kabhi na bhoole tumko
gawaah hai chaand sitaare
mil ke bichhadna
bichhad ke milna
mil ke bichhadna
bichhad ke milna
ulfat ka dastoor
yeh toh ulfat ka dastoor
jab tak ik bhi saans hai baaki
loongi naam tumhaara aa
jab tak ik bhi saans hai baaki
loongi naam tumhaara
ham na rahenge
toh bhi jahaan mein
ham na rahenge
toh bhi jahaan mein
rahega pyaar hamaara
tum hi mere dil ka ujaala
tum hi mere dil ka ujaala
tum aankhon kaa noor
saajan tum aankhon ka noor
main bhi hoon majboor saajan
dil bhi hai majboor

Atul ji,
CHALLENGE-1964 was a fantasy cum costume cum stunt movie made for that special class of people who sat in dilapidated, old cinema houses expecting titilating scenes, dances, music and fighting. They were least worried about histrionics or the story line,For such people,Ranjan and Chitra were a sureshot entertainment.
Ranjan-who was a post graduate from Madras presidency college was in reality Ramnarayan Venkatramana Sarma(1918-1983).He was an excellent sword fighter in reality and was used by producers for this skill alone. He started with a role of Gautam Budha in Tamil film “Ashoka” in 1946.His first brush with Hindi audience was in Chandralekha-48.He acted in more than 25 hindi films-all staunts.Chitra was his permanent Heroine,in many films. He died in New Jersey-US due to a Heart attack, while attending a party.
Badal(Ranjan) was a brave and courageous sword maker.Once he refuses to sell his best sword to Durjan(Ramayan Tiwary),the wicked Vazir of the king and is put behind bars.he befriends Barsati(Maruti) a smalltime crook in the Jail.He is released only after he defeats an assistant of Durjan in a sword fight.
Hansa(Chitra) is a Fairy who has lost her wings. She falls in love with Badal and hence refused entry in heaven by her sister(Padma Chavan).Hansa is captured by Durjan and sold to a wicked Magician(Pal Sharma) who tries all his magical powers to get Hansa as his wife.In a duel,Badal kills the magician and rescues Hansa.
Durjan who got a magical Wand and a magic Cap in exchange of Hansa, from the Magician overpowers the good King(Kamal Kapoor). In the meantime Hansa gets back her wings and Magic Power. With her help,Badal attacks Durjan and kills him and releases the King from prison.
This film had 6 songs but only 2 records with 4 songs were made. The MD was Ajit Merchant who gave music to films like Indra Leela,Rajkumari,Refugee,Chandi Pooja,Lady killer,Ram Bhakta Bibhishan and Sapera fro 1948 to 1961.
