Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Chanda hai tu mera suraj hai tu

Posted on: April 26, 2012

This article is written by nahm, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Here is another song from the Film “Aradhana” which I like a lot. Actually in this genre of songs my favourite is “mere ghar aayi ek nanhi pari” from “Kabhi Kabhi” which is already posted, and the post in written by Lalitha ji.

I think she is the senior most of guest writers alongwith Raja ji, in this blog. Ah! but they are the original followers of the blog. I am the latest addition to this Guest writers list. One would think that I should behave suitably and wait till my seniors have a post or two in before sending my next 🙂 . While some of the seniors are sending posts every now and than, those who are just senior to me like Ava ji and Pradeep Raghunathan ji have been silent. Not fair.

“Bahut na insaafi hai !” in filmy parlance. I am expected to complete century, but if there is no one to give me competition, there is no fun :). And I am sure Khyati ji will complete her milestone of century post as fast as century of lyrics. I am seriously considering holding back my posts and go back to sending lyrics. Infact I sent a few lyrics also to Atul ji this week.

Jokes apart, this song is a finding solace kind of emotional song as, Rajesh Khanna Senior is dead and Sharmila Tagore is solely responsible for her son who will grow up to be Rajesh Khanna Junior. She is singing of her aspirations and hopes for the future regarding her son.

Lata Mangeshkar is the singer, S. D.Burman is the Music director and the lyricist is Anand Bakshi. It has a happy and sad version. Actually happy version has one more stanza which is missing from the video clip. I was not able to find any audio version containing the additional stanza. I think it must have been played in the background in the film at the end, when Rajesh Khanna Junior is getting married to Farida Jalal. The stanza is :

munne tu khush hai bada
tere gudde ki shaadi hai aaj
munne tu khush hai bada
tere gudde ki shaadi hai aaj
main vaari re main balihaari re
ghoonghat mein gudiyaa ko aati hai laaj
yunhi kabhi hogi shaadi teri
dulhaa banegaa kunwaara hai tu
chanda hai tu meraa suraj hai tu

chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu
o meri aankhon ka taara hai tu
chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu
o meri aankhon ka taara hai tu
jeeti hoon main
bas tujhe dekh ke
iss toote dil ka sahaara hai tu
chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu

tu khele khel kayee
meraa khilona hai tu
tu khele khel kayee
meraa khilona hai tu
jis se bandhi
har aasha meri
mera woh sapna salonaa hai tu
nanhaa sa hai
kitna sundar hai tu
chhotaa sa hai
kitna pyaara hai tu
chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu

purwaayi ban mein ude
panchhi chaman mein ude
purwaayi ban mein ude
panchhi chaman mein ude
raam kare
kabhi ho ke bada
tu ban ke baadal gagan mein ude
jo bhi tujhe dekhe woh yeh kahe
kis maa ka aisa dulaara hai tu
chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu
o meri aankhon ka taara hai tu
jeeti hoon main
bas tujhe dekh ke
iss toote dil ka sahaara hai tu
chanda hai tu
meraa suraj hai tu

That little kid in the song was so cute, and the song so pretty, there is everything I love here.

I know I have not been able to contribute much. Am kind of busy right now, doing some good things for a change. I will be back soon with some good songs. In the meantime, Nahm, keep writing.

Thanks Nahm for posting (not just sending lyrics to Atulji) this song. Actually, it helps him do job faster than people like me who believes in “slow and steady wins the race”. To mere saath daud lagane ki sochna hi mat :). Waise bhi, senior hoon to thoda peechhe rehna achha bhi lagta hai. Chhota aage ho to hume aanad milega na. 🙂 Ask Atulji, how much time he needs to correct my write ups. Usko lagta hoga ki us se achha hai ki main khud hi likh dalu. 😆
Talking about my “post century”- If Sachin can take his time for reaching this milestone of 100th century, to socho, mujhe to kitna samay lagega.
Abhi hansi-mazak bahot kiya, now let me talk about this song. I remember watching this movie on DD before my HSC exams. Mujhe yaad hai ki main itni pareshann thi ki could not concentrate on study. It took me few days to come out of that”blue mood”. I remember crying to the part when RK dies and then ST is rejected by RK’s family. And then when Pahadi Sanyal along with ST, leaves and the back ground song of “kahe ko roye…….” by S D Burman starts. OMG! The whole song was the sequence of tragedy in her life. Rona bandh bhi nahi kar shakti thi. Lagta tha jaise SD mere liye hi gaate the Kahe ko roye……The song you have posted was like kisi ne zakhm pe marham laga diya ho. It did cheer me up to some extent. I still love watching this movie. Haan, ab roti nahin hoon, kyoon ki pata hai ki ye sifr movie hai aur RK to abhi bhi zinda hai. 😆
I better stop now, otherwise it will be like a Post Reply for a Post Song .

I had missed this comment, abhi dekha. I am also enjoying writing posts. As for corrections, mere posts aur lyrics bhi Atul ji corrections kar ke post karte hain. At first glance, even I am not able to see the corrections, some word changes. So, time spent is the same.

S. D. Burman’s songs are “meri jaan”. Aap ne yaad dilaaya to mujhe yaad aaya, ke main ne kaafi dinon se SD Burman ka gayaa huaa koyi gaana nahin sunaa hai. It must do so today.
