Ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge

Posted on: May 10, 2012

“Shrimati 420″(1956), obviously a take on “Shri 420”, was a Sippy Films Production. It was produced and directed by G P Sippy. The movie had Johny walker, Meena Shorey, Om Prakash etc in it. Surprisingly enough, very little information is available on this movie. As far as I can see, only the names of these three actors are known. And to add to the confusion, various “knowledgeable” sites cannot even agree on the music director of this movie. Some sites mention N Datta as the music director, whereas other sites mention O P Nayyar as the music director. I request our knowledeable readers to throw more light on this movie as well as the music director.

Here is a song from this movie. It is sung by Geeta Dutt, with very few words (that can be counted on one’s fingers) uttered by Rafi. Jaan Nisaar Akhtar is the lyricist. The music sounds archtypically O P Nayyar like, so I have considered O P Nayyar as the music director.

Only the audio of this song is available, but I guess that this song was picturised on Meena Shorey and Johny Walker.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-Ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge (Shrimati 420)(1956) Singers-Geeta Dutt, Rafi, Lyrics-Jaan Nisaar Akhtar, MD-O P Nayyar

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge
sainyaa tum badaa dukh paaoge
ab jaan bhi lo
pehchaan bhi lo
nazren ye pyaar kin
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge
sainyaa tum badaa dukh paaoge
ab jaan bhi lo
pehchaan bhi lo
nazren ye pyaar kin
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge

tum jawaan
meraa dil jawaan
ek nazar mere meharbaan
tum jawaan
meraa dil jawaan
ek nazar mere meharbaan
maano maano
meri baat maano
nahi ghair jaano o piyaa
maano maano
meri baat maano
nahi ghair jaano o piyaa
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge
achcha
sainyaa tum badaa dukh paaoge
a ha
ab jaan bhi lo
pehchaan bhi lo
nazren ye pyaar kin
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge

dilrubaa
meri har adaa
har nazar meri ik balaa
dilrubaa
meri har adaa
har nazar
meri ik balaa
gori gori
meri dekho baanhen
bhare log aahen o piyaa
gori gori
meri dekho baanhen
bhare log aahen o piyaa
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge
achcha
sainyaa tum badaa dukh paaoge
o ho
ab jaan bhi lo
pehchaan bhi lo
nazren ye pyaar ki
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaayoge
sainyaa tum badaa duhkh paaoge
ab jaan bhi lo
pehchaan bhi lo
nazren ye pyaar kin
ham ko chhod ke kahaan jaaoge

Atul ji,
The composer of this film is O.P.Nayyar.
There is a very catchy song in this film-Yahan hum, wahan tum, mera dil hua hai gumm, bolo kahan ?-by Rafi/Geeta.

Atul ji,
SHRIMATI 420-1956 was the last film of Meena Shorey to be released in India. The film had been shot in a hurry in the end part of 1955,as Roop and Meena were to go to Pakistan,on an invitation to make a film. The film which they made there was Miss 56,a blatant copy of indian film
Mr.and Mrs 55 which was a runaway hit here.
Unfortunately,Meena Shorey got misled by the fame and adulation she got that time in Pakistan, she decided to permanently remain in Pakistan, against the sane advice by her husband Roop K Shorey, with a foolish hope that she will play another successful innings in Pakistan thereafter, just like Noorjehan.
She ,however forgot that even Noorjehan-very wisely-stopped acting in the films at the right time and had concentrated only on playback singing, thus extending her film career,in Pakistan.
Meena was unlucky and she ended up with dire consequences and finally dying in a pathetic way in Pakistan.
In India, however, her image was always that of an innocent looking, bubbly good looking actress. Her ‘Ek thi ladki’ image stayed with her in India for ever.
SHRIMATI 420 was made to encash her this image and the story by G.P.Sippy himself was built around Meena and her antics. In addition there was good music, but still the film did not do well and was discarded in no time.May be people could not digest her going away to Pakistan.
Seth Gulabchand (Om Prakash0 strongly believed that men are a superior species than women and they can do anything they want, but the women have no right to do anything else except worshipping and dying for husband. As his wealth was growing,so also his bad habits and indulgence was escalating. He used to be among wine, women and other pleasures for satisfying basar instincts.
Once he promises a dancer that he will marry her.He believed that men can have as many wives they want. However,a smart girl Rita asks him if he would tolerate the same kind of behaiour from his own wife, and what will happen if she decided to marry one more man.
This questios starts troubling Seth ji and when he sleeps that night,he gets a looooong dream-which in fact is the real cinema. In this he sees that his wife(Meena) transforms herself from a timid housewife to a Tomboyish chaalu girl, who dresses and sings and dances with men,and does almost everything that he had been doing. On top it all,she also chooses a Man to marry once more. The marriage cards are printed and distributed in the name of Sethji. When the actual day of her marriage comes,Sethji wakes up to find his dutiful wife doing Gid’s Aarati.
This dream changes the attitude of Sethji and he joins her in the Arati.
