Mera padhhne mein nahin laage dil

Posted on: May 18, 2012

Most Hindi movies (and Indian movies of other languages) are nealy three hours long. Movies of other countries are shorter in duration in comparison.

What makes Indian movies longer than movies of other countries ? Songs obviously play a role. But Indian movies with lesser number of songs too are also quite long.

It would seem to me that differences/ misunderstandings among various characters is what helps these movies move forward :). If the characters were mature and understanding like me, then there would be little drama and the movies would be over in half an hour 🙂

Most Hindi movies have stories far removed from real lives, but stories based on day to day lives have also been covered in Hindi movies. For instance, “Kora Kaaghaz” (1974) was a movie based on the real life situation of marital discord among a married couple, played by Vijay Anand and Jaya Bhaduri. A subject like this did not appeal to mass audience during its time, but mature adience (who form a small part of the enrire movie going audience) liked this movie.

The songs of this movie were very good and were quite appropriate to the theme of the movie.

Here is a nice song from this movie. Younger sister is teasing her elder sister Jaya Bhaduri vis a vis Vijay Anand,. The song is sung by Lata. M G Hashmat is the lyricist. Music is composed by Kalyanji Anandji.

I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actress playing the younger sister who lip syncs this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Song-Mera padhne mein nahin laage dil (Kora Kaaghaz) (1974) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-M G Hashmat, MD-Kalyanji Anandji

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

mera padhne main nahin laage dil kyun
mera padhne main nahin laage dil
dil pe kya pad gayi mushkil
hmm
arrey raat bhi sooni sooni laagey
aur din bhi soona soona laagey
koyi yeh to bataa de
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mera padhne main nahin laage dil
ho o o

o o o
baithe baithe man muskaaye
baithe baithe man muskaaye
main na jaanoon wo kyun yaad aaye
main na jaanoon wo kyun yaad aaye
kis se baatein karti hoon main
arrey kis se baatein karti hoon main
chhupke chhupke hansti hoon
koyi yeh to bataa de
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mera padhne mein nahin laage dil
ho o o

o o o
dil mein kya hai likh nahin paaun
dil mein kya hai likh nahin paaun
khat likhoon to ussey kaise pahunchaaun
khat likhoon to ussey kaise pahunchaaun
paas bhi us ke jaa na sakoon main
arrey paas bhi us ke jaa na sakoon main
door us se reh na sakoon
koyi yeh to bataa de
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa

mera padhne main nahin laage dil
hmm
mera padhne main nahin laage dil
dil pe kya pad gayi mushkil
hmm
arrey raat bhi sooni sooni laagey
aur din bhi soona soona laagey
koyi yeh to bataa de
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mujhe wo to nahin ho gayaa
mera padhne main nahin laage dil

She is Nazneen. She was superb as the naughty, impish younger sister of Jaya Bhaduri. Sadly, this happened to be her best role. She acted in B grade movies and gradually vanished from the scene. Why don’t our film makers recognize talent when they see it?

hi atul
the sister for Jaya Bhaduri was Nazneen, her brother was Dinesh Hingoo. Achala Sachdev played a very money-minded status-consious high-society mom to JB. (far removed from the sweet characters she was known for. god bless her soul.) then there was A.K.Hangal (father- professor) also i think there was Sulochana as Vijay Anand’s Maasi.

Nazneen did appear much later in a major role in the TV serial Mahabharatha (1988-90) as Kunti.

But its sad that she didn’t get good roles in good movies after this movie. In fact she pranced around in a 2-piece bikini in a B-grade movie. I forget the movie name…..

1)Nazneen`s 2 piece bikini role was in
1976-Chalte chalte(either in the song jaanaa kahaan hai or pyaar mein kabhi kabhi aisa ho jata hai with Vishal Anand/Bheesham Kohli)
She was also there in
2)Ek hi bhool(1981)(with jeetendra with whom she got some intimate scenes)
3)She played a rape victim`s role in
1981:Waqt ki pukaar(Jeetendra,Sanjeevkumar,neetu starrer)
4)1974:sanjeev kumar’s Naya din Nayee raat(She was there in a song picturised in ladies section of Mental hospital, where most of the famous female character artistes participated alongwith jaya badhuri
5)Oh Bewaffa(1980)(with Anil Dhawan, yogita bali)got one popular song to lip sync Hemalata song”Bhari barsaat mein dil jalaayaa, ke jaan tera kuchch na rahe”(Sawan Kumar-Vedpal)
6)1981:Khuda kasam:Vinod khanna,tina munim starrer(got one song to lip sync:Suman Kalyanpur:zara tehar jaao)(Lekh Tondon)
7)1972:Sa-re-ga-ma-pa/Jawani mastani(featured in popular song”Tu pyaar maange main pyaar de doon)(Satyen Bose)
8)1973:Meri garib-e-nawaz
9)1975:Ranga Khush with famous Joginder(Shelly)
10)Dildaar:1977:With jeetendra,rekha(D.Rama Naidu)

Is she married to villain Ranjeet or is that some other Nazneen?

Like

I think Ranjeet`s wife`s name is Apeksha(That too Ranjeet and Apekshaa were not together, I think he married another, after Pushpa,Apeksha and another one) I dont` think this Nazneen got anything to do with Villain Ranjeet. Correct me If I am wrong.

As per my info, Ranjeet(Real name Gopal Bedi) is a graduate of National Inst. of Fashion Technology and is a regd.Graphic designer. His wife is Nazneen, who also designs dresses, but without any formal training. They have a daughter Divyanka Bedi-a student of Fashion institute and also a son.
Obviously, this Nazneen is not from films.

Thank you Prakashji and Thank you Arunji for clarification. It seems that there is not much info available regarding Nazneen after Mahabharat or any other personal details about her.

I have another query for u guys 🙂 Raza Murad is son of Murad. Are Zeenat Aman and her father (Amanullah Khan?) related to them? if yes, how? Also, are actress Sonam, her father (M Kabir?) and actress Sanober Kabir related to above group of people? if yes, how? Has been puzzling to me for quite some time. Many Thanks.

Ah, lovely to see a typical Atulism 🙂

I liked Kora Kaagaz – simple story, real-life situation. And of course Jaya Bhaduri. I am a huge fan of Jaya Bhaduri – I believe she is the best actor in the Bachchan household.

Naazneen was the heroine in Chalte Chalte, which did quite well actually (the title song was a massive hit!). But I think she was overshadowed in that movie by Simi Garewal who had the more powerful role.

According to the year of this song, I was in 9th standard then. If I dared to sing this song aloud, I was whacked one of my serveral cousins “Chup kar jaa”. I guess they were afraid I would follow the song a little too literally. 🙂

Now I dont dare to sing this song lest I pass on the sentiments of the song on to my son. 😦

The film “Kora Kaagaz” was a remake of a Bengali movie “Saat Paake Bandha”, a superb movie directed by Ajay Kar starring Soumitra Chatterjee and Suchitra Sen. Needless to say, the film had no songs and a different ending.
