Nigaahen kyun milaayin thhin

Posted on: July 9, 2012

“Laal Kunwar” (1952) was a N V M Productions movie. It was directed by Ravindra Dave. The movie had Nasir Khan, Suraiya, P. Jairaj, Agha, Durga Khote, Usha Kiran etc in it.

One song from this movie has been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. It is sung by Suraiyya. Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by S d Burman.

Only the audio of this song is available, but it is easy to guess that the song was picturised on Suraiyya herself.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Nigaahen kyun milaayin thhin (Laal Kunwar)(1952) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Sahir Ludhianvi, MD-S D Burman

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)

nigaahen kyun milaayin theen
agar yoon chhod jaana tha
nigaahen kyun milaayin theen
agar yoon chhod jaana tha
ummeeden kyun jagaayi theen
een een een
ummeeden kyun jagaayi theen
agar dil ko jalaana tha

khushi maangi thi hum ne
gham se daaman bhar diya tu ne
ae ae ae
khushi maangi thi hum ne
gham se daaman bhar diya tu ne
arrey o jaane waale
ae ae ae
arrey o jaane waale
haaye yeh kya kar diya tu ne
ae ae ae
muhabbat ki qasam hum ne
tujhe aisa na jaana tha
nigaahen kyun milaayin theen
agar yoon chhod jaana tha

chale aao tumhen is dil ki aahen
yaad karti hain
aen aen aen
chale aao tumhen is dil ki aahen
yaad karti hain
jo sooni ho gayeen tum bin woh raahen
yaad karti hain
aen aen aen
mile kyun the agar milna
bichhadne ka bahaana tha
nigaahen kyun milaayin theen
agar yoon chhod jaana tha
ummeeden kyun jagaayin theen
een een een
ummeeden kyun jagaayin theen
agar dil ko jalaana tha

After 1950 her career took a serious nose dive. Mirza Galib and rustam sohrab was tailor made role and song for her.
But Dev after 50’s got the boost to his career like a sky rocket.
On other ends…
Lyricist Sahir and his love for Amreeta Preetam…very similar story.
In ends both Sahir and Suraiyaya, remained bachelor all their lives.
