Main hoon Atom bomb

The peculiarity of the choice of words and themes of songs in Hindi films will probably never cease to surprise. As we continue to unearth more and more unheard songs, we continue to come across songs that will make one wonder and bring a laugh at the same time. Looking for something else, I bumped into this song just a little while ago. I had not heard this song before. And in just one listen, I am completely bowled over.

The key phrase in the lyrics is ‘atom bomb’. I am sure we can locate some more songs where this phrase is used. But I do not recall a song that is primarily built on this phrase. The film is Dr. Shaitaan from 1960. This film has already made its debut on this blog, with a wonderful group song – “Tum Miley Jo Dil Dhaley” already posted. So today I find a second song and its title immediately captured my attention – ‘Main Hoon Atom Bomb’. The song most likely sounds like a dance number, but in the absence of the video clip, I am just making a guess. And of course, with the singing voice of Geeta Dutt, the energy and the liveliness emanating from this song is simply too good.

‘Dr. Shaitaan’ is a crime-suspense drama produced under the banner of Bohra Brothers, Bombay. The film is produced by Ramkumar and is directed by Sri Ram Bohra. The star cast is an amply familiar set for such B/C grade films, and includes Sheikh Mukhtar, Premnath, Shakila, Sheikh, Tiwari, Helen, Nasreen, Naazi, Indira, Rajan Kapoor, Ramkumar, Sunder, Mirajkar, Ramlal, Kamal Sharma, Maqbool etc. The songs of this film are written by Jaan Nissar Akhtar. And the music composition is by N Dutta.

The following brief synopsis is adapted from the comment posted by Arun ji Deshmukh, our in house encyclopedia of Hindi films and film music.

Dr. Shaitaan – 1960, is an interesting film, provided you leave your brains and reasoning power and logic at home before venturing to see this film. (I remember having seen this film, as I was an ardent fan of Shaikh Mukhtar those days.) The film, a Bohra Bros. production is produced by Ramkumar and directed by Shriram Bohra. The dialogues, story and screenplay is by Ramprakash Ashq.

Dr. Ashok (Premnath) is an internationally famous scientist, who has vowed to keep this world in peace, come what may. This of course, is not what Dr. Shaitaan (Sheikh Mukhtar) thinks. He wants to rule the world. He gets hold of atomic power. He uses it to give life to his dead henchmen. Dr.Shaitan creates chaos, destruction and mass killings. The police are helpless. They can’t find Dr. Shaitaan. The police contact Dr. Ashok, who is busy with his work whenever he is free from singing songs and meeting his beloved Asha (Shakila). Ashok accepts the challenge. When Dr. Shaitaan learns about this, he (naturally) kidnaps Asha to bargain with the police. Dr. Ashok produces a weapon which will kill Dr. Shaitaan, despite his atomic power.

With the help of police, Dr. Ashok enters Dr. Shaitaan’s den a la James Bond style and not only rescues Asha but also kills Dr. Shaitaan, for the greater good of the mankind. Dr. Ashok is honored by the government and privately given a special prize by Asha !

Thus the world is saved.

Only the audio of this song is available. But with Helen’s name in the credits, it is very feasible that this song may have been performed by her on screen. In any case, enjoy this atomic song – with words by Jaan Nisaar and the melody created by N Dutta. No radioactive fallout, I assure you. 🙂

Lyrics

main hoon atom bomb

paas mein aatey
haath lagaatey
nikley sab ka dam
main hoon atom bomb
main

main hoon atom bomb

bijli mujh se darr ke bhaage
koi naa thhehrey mere aagey
bijli mujh se darr ke bhaage
koi naa thhehrey mere aagey
aag ka shola
top ka golaa
sab hain mujh se kamm
main hoon atom bomb
main
main
main hoon atom bomb

mere jitney chaahne waale
tan ke gorey
mann ke kaale
mere jitney chaahne waale
tan ke gorey
mann ke kaale
chor luterey
kaun ye mere
mujh ko kis ka gham
main hoon atom bomb
main
main
main hoon atom bomb

ek qayaamat mera dhamaaka
mujh mein dekho zor balaa ka
ek qayaamat mera dhamaaka
mujh mein dekho zor balaa ka
door hi rehnaa
phir na kehnaa
samjhe thhe kya hum
main hoon atom bomb
main

main hoon atom bomb

Sudhirji,
What a perfect song for your 400th song! Aap ne atom bomb ki tarah bahut dhamake kiye hai. bada firk ye hai ki woh “vinash” karta hai lekin aap aanand ka “sarjan” karte ho. Kaise aap ka dhanyawaad karun ye pata nahi.

Indeed, congrats to you, Sudhirji, for your 400th post here. Have thoroughly enjoyed reading your write-ups – the passion and love for the persons involved come through very strongly in your writing, as is the breadth and depth of your knowledge.

And of course, the translations are also extremely handy. They enhance the enjoyment of the songs so much.

Just listened to this song for the first time now – and what a fun song it is. Vintage Geeta Dutt.

(Atul, i think this has been tagged wrongly to Geeta Bali instead of Geeta Dutt).
