Posted on: July 15, 2012

“Sasuraal”(1961) was a Prasad Production movie. It was directed by T Prakash Rao. The movie had Rajendra Kumar, B. Saroja Devi, Shobha Khote, Leela Misra, Anwar Hussain, Randhir, Mehmood, Jayshree Gadkar, Dhumal, Misra, Ratnamala, Wasti, Lalita Pawar, Bipin Gupta etc in it.

This movie was a big hit and the single most important reason for the success of the movie was its music which was magical. The spell of this magic has yet to waer off even after the passage of half a century.

As many as four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Those songs were picturised on the lead actors of the movie.

In those days, a comic side plot (CSP), a term coined by Memsaab, also formed a part of the story line. This CSP consisted of Mehmood and Shubha Khote, with Dhumal playing Shubha Khote’s father. Dhumal would forever be after Mehmood, with the later outwitting him every time, much to the merriment of movie goers.

The CSP duo of Mehmood and Shubha Khote also got to sing a romantic song in the movie. Here is that song from “Sasuraal” (1961).

The song is sung by Mukesh and Lata. Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Khyati Bhatt.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)

to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

paas rehkar bhi bahut door bahut door rahe
ek bandhan mein bandhe phir bhi to hum door rahe
paas rehkar bhi bahut door bahut door rahe
ek bandhan mein bandhe phir bhi to hum door rahe
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

dil miley aankh mili
pyaar na milne paaye
baaghbaan kehta hai do phool na khilne paayen
dil miley aankh mili
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

ajab sulagti huyi lakdiyaan hain jagwaale
mile to aag ugalte kate to dhoonwa karen
ajab sulagti huyi lakdiyaan hai jagwaale
mile to aag ugalte kate to dhoonwa karen
apni duniya mein bhi sukh chain ka phera hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota
to kitna achha hota

Though this lovely song is sung by the CSP duo, it doesn’t sound like the usual ‘comedy’ songs. The lyrics,if you notice, are quite serious. This song could easily have been picturised on the lead pair too.

Very true !

You are so right – this could have been a song by the lead pair. I always get confused between this song and “gori chalo na hans ki chaal” on this same pair and composed also by S-J (though that is Rafi saab-Asha).

Sasural was an OK movie. Typical South Indian production. 🙂 Rajendra Kumar did quite a few of these.

Yes, Sasural was a musical hit movie of its time and you have rightly said that the spell of the magic has yet to wear off even after passes of half a century. This particular song is a wish list of simple and Innocent lovers who are engrossed in their own world.
