Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Main sooraj hoon tu meri kiran

Posted on: July 15, 2012

“Dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966) was a Rawal Films production. It was produced by B L Rawal and directed by C L Rawal. Songs of the movie were written by G L Rawal. 🙂

The movie had Dharmendra,Nutan, Rehman,Bela Bose, Laxmi Chhaya, I.S.Johar,Mumtaz Begum, Jeevan, Randhir, Sunder,TunTun,Niranjan Sharma, Ravikant, JeevanKala, Madhumati, Pal Sharma, Brahm Bhardwaj etc in it.

On paper it is a very impressive cast indeed. And the music of this movie was outstanding. But for all this, the movie was badly let down thanks to its insipid story line.

It is a movie which did not deserve the songs that it had.

This movie was the debut movie of Sonik Omi as independent music directors. and it was a stunning debut. It is unfortunate that the rest of the movie did not quite match up to the quality of the music.

I have discussed as many as five songs from this movie. And all of them have been stunning songs too. Songs like Aaja re pyaar pukaare , Dil ne phir yaad kiya, Kaliyon ne ghoonghat khole, Lo chehraa surkh sharaab huaa and Ye dil hai muhabbat ka pyaasaa adorn this movie.

Here is yet another fantastic song from this movie. This song is sung by Rafi and Suman Kalyanpur Asha Bhonsle.

Songs picturised on lead actors on car/ tonga is old hat. This song is picturised on horseback, with both Dharmendra and Nutan riding their own horses, and riding side by side while lip syncing this song.

Riding horses while singing a romantic duet – that is called romancing in style. Most people cannot afford horses. If fact those days even two wheelers were un affordable for most. It was from 1980s onwards that two wheelers became affordable. So much so that even youngsters became mobile on their two wheelers. And ever since, it has become a fairly common sight to find a boy riding his motorbike and a girl riding her scooty riding side by side on busy roads. They do not sing this duet, but the same principle apply in their case. :). The picturisation of this song may well have inspired such behaviour on the parts of the modern day love birds.

Here is this fantastic song from “dil Ne Phir Yaad Kiya” (1966). Listen to it but do not try to emulate the behaviour of Dharmendra and Nutan afterwards by picking up your bike and going on the road. In any case they are riding on empty roads with little traffic there as one can see.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

aa haaa

o o
main sooraj hoon
tu meri kiran
sang teraa rahe ae
ho o o
main aag mein teri
jal jaaoon
dil mera kahe

o o
main sooraj hoon
tu meri kiran
sang teraa rahe ae
ho o o
main aag mein teri
jal jaaoon
dil meraa kahe

ho
o o o
o o o
aa aa aa
aa aa aa

chaand ka tukdaa
meraa hamsafar
tu chale to gire
taare bhi raah par
a ha ha ha
mujhpe huyee jab
teri ye nazar
main kahaan hoon
nahin apni bhi khabar

ab yaad jahaan ki bhulaane
dekhoji dekho hum chalen

ho o o
main sooraj hoon
tu meri kiran
sang teraa rahe ae
ho o o
main aag mein teri
jal jaaoon
dil meraa kahe

ho o o
o o
o o o
aa aa aa
aa aa aa

dulhaa hai tu aur
dulhan main teri
tu milaa to mujhe
mil gayee phir khushi

aha ha ha ha
ek nashaa hai
teraa pyaar bhi
tu nahin to
kaise kate zindagi
ab saath sadaa kaa nibhaane
dekho ji dekho hum chalein

ho o o
main sooraj hoon
tu meri kiran
sang teraa rahe ae
ho o o
main aag mein teri
jal jaaoon
dil meraa kahe

ho o o
o
o o o
o o o
aa aa aa

rut hai jawaan aur
tum bhi ho haseen
ho le chalo ke
mujhe tum par hai yakeen

ahhaaaaaahaaa
pehloo mein tum ho tho
jannat hai yahin
ho
ye samaa to jannat
mein bhi nahin

ab pyaar ki duniya basaane
dekhoji dekho hum chale

ho o
main sooraj hoon
tu meri kiran
sang teraa rahe ae
ho o o
main aag mein teri
jal jaaoon
dil meraa kahe

ho o o
o o
o o o
aa aa aa
aa aa aa

hho o o
o o
o o o
ah ha ha ha
ah ha ha ha

Atulji
Nahin ye voice toh Asha Bhosle ji ki hi hai, may be another version of Rafi, suman kalyanpur exist, But ……..

Judy see this:

Sorry typing mistake it should be “Just see this”,not “judy see this”

Atul ji,
indeed the song is sung by Asha and Rafi.
Suman k. had only one(title) song with mukesh and Rafi.

Thanks for this clarification.

You’re right, Atul-ji! Poor poor Sonik-Omi composed such wonderful tunes for this idiotic movie! The Rawal brothers ought to have been banned from making movies! 🙂

Hey Mani ji spare G.L.Rawal, He is the Lyricist of this well written song, We will ban other Rawal brothers i.e., Producer & director Hhaa,Just joking. 🙂

Chalo Prakashchandraji, G L Rawal ko maaf kiya! But seriously, have you seen this movie? Dharmendra was so macho and handsome, Nutan was so ethereally lovely, Rehman was his usual regal ‘nawabi’ self. The songs were mind blowing. But the movie was ‘pukka’ B grade with such a silly story!

Mani ji
No I haven`t seen it.
After reading your comments, I will not dare to see it, so that my feelings about the superb musical score of this movie remain in tact.

Especially I like
Lata`s aajaare pyaare pukaare lines “chanda bichchad na jaaye teri chaandni” breathless rendering.

Rafi`s spirited “kaliyon ne ghooghat khole…..”

and while hearing rafi, mukesh, suman`s title song, I feel like “saari dharthi tham gayee hai”

But today onwards, whenever I listen to the songs of this movie, automatically I will remember your spirited comments. Really I enjoyed your comments thoroughly.

Thanks for livening up my Sunday afternoon, otherwise somewhat gloomy atmosphere. 🙂

Regards
Prakash

Let me get into a villain mode Prakashchachandra-ji! Hahaha!(that’s a Madan Puri laughter!), I’ll tell you the story….. The story was so ridiculous that the Rawal brothers would have made a lot of money had they branded ‘Dil ne phir yaad kiya’ as a comedy! Dharam and Nutan are in love. Rehman is Dharam’s friend. Dharam and Nutan are involved in a train accident. Nutan dies. Dharam comes to see Rehman. Rehman is married. To a Nutan! Dharam thinks she’s her lover and keeps loving her. Rehman sympathises with Dharam and compels his wife to pretend she’s the other Nutan! Confused, Prakashchandra-ji? I’ll add to the confusion. Out of nowhere pops up another Dharam! To cut a long story short, Dharam finally realises that this Nutan is not that Nutan! And drops off a cliff top and dies. Rehman and Nutan are relieved. So is the audience! Somewhere in the movie there’s a beautiful song that apna Atul-ji forgot to mention. It’s a beautiful Asha number…”Hume to khushi hai, tumhe dil diya..” Isn’t ‘Dil ne phir yaad kiya’ a superb comedy, Prakashchandra ji?! 😉

You are 100% correct, Mani ji, Anyways.Thank you for the story,
Being a die hard Crazy fan of Hindi movies(belonging to 50`s,60`s, upto 80s`) samay mile toh mujhe ek baar iss movie dekhne ki aas jagaayee aapne(without Great expectations from the side of story writer, )Sometimes is tarhaa hi be-sir-pair comedy bhi relax kar dethi hai. 🙂
Way for pure “Escapist entertainment”
Regards
Prakash

Maniji,
Aap “Character Actor” of this blog ka role achhi tarah nibhah rahe ho. Kabhi Hero ke nazariye se dekh kar comment likhte ho to kabhi heroine ke. Abhi ye naya Avataar bhi dekha – Villain mode ka. 😆
Prakashji,
I had seen this movie with great expectations as songs are so melodious. But alas! Movie khatam hone ke baad achha tha ki mujhe Rawal Bros ka pata nahin tha aur main yahan US main thi (win win situation for them 🙂 ) Abhi jab bhi is ka koi gana sunti hoon to gaane ki situation mere saamne aa jaati hai aur gussa bhi aata hai ki kyun maine India mein ye pic nahin dekhi, ki ye Rawal Bros ke paas pahunchne ka chance to milta tha. Abhi Maniji ne mere puraane ghaav ko taaza kar diya. 😆 Just kidding.

Khyati ji
Aapke jaise hi ghaav khaa khaakar, maine ab Hindi movies ki story ki taraf utnaa dhyaan hi nahin deta. Koi toh mera favourite actor or actress hote hain na , Unnko dekh dekh kar movies dekhne ka kaam poora kar leta hoon. Bees minute ke interval mein ek ek karke gaane toh hote hi hain, unhin kaa sahaaraa bhi bahut hota hai. Par Hindi movies dekhna bandh karne ka soch hi nahin, woh mera pehla PYAAR HAI 🙂

Aap kitne achhe ho Prakashji. Aap ki achhi soch ne aaj mujhe ek nayi raah dikhayi. Dhanyawaad.

Prakash~ji, I too belong to the same generation as you do. As a schoolkid in Bombay, I was brought up on a steady diet of Hindi movies. My friends and I rarely missed a movie. And that too—‘first day first show’! We had good reasons to see it on the first day. Often, some songs were chopped off after the first day! Remember ‘Mere Sanam’? We had the fortune of seeing the lovely Rafi/Asha duet–“Humne tho dil ko aap ke kadmon me rakh diya…” It vanished the next day! ‘Baharon ke Sapne’ was a tragedy on the first day, when Rajesh Khanna and Asha Parekh get killed in a police firing. Jadoo mantar choo mantar! They survived the next day! But Hindi movies were enjoyable those days. Can you call our movies ‘Hindi movies’ anymore? Most of them have such Westernised stars and are shot in every country on the globe. Except India! Looks as though they’re ashamed of our own country.

Khyati~ji, agar main aapke purane ghaav ko dubara taja kiya, to main maafi chahtha hoon. Mujhe bas sirf itna kahna hai—“What to do! I am like that only!” Aaj main ‘villain mode’ me nahi hoon! Aajkal Hindi filme nahin dekhtha hoon. Ek tho budaapa, doosra aaj kal ke Hindi filme, Hindi filme nahi raha!

Jo bhi ho, I feel we were lucky to have seen beautiful movies with excellent actors and unforgettable songs, hai ki nahi?

Atulji,
The tag needs to be corrected. The female voice is Ashaji, as you have mentioned in the comment. Thanks.
