The movie “Pyaar ka mausam” is a nice package of beautiful songs. It has less songs than other Nasir Hussain movies, but then all of them are good quality songs.
There is this beauty of a Lata solo in this film, which has church bell like music interludes. I have heard this song many times but I was not aware that it is from this film. I had short listed this song when I was looking for songs to write a post on Majrooh’s death anniversary tribute.
In the song Shashi Kapoor is going away, with his customary guitar in hand. Thank god that he didnt decide to take the piano with him 🙂 . He has a long trek ahead of him. And Asha Parekh is calling out to him beseeching him not to go and not to reject her love. The situation is very much usual, but the location is a bit strange. Shashi Kapoor is shown walking in a valley, which has to be a dry river bed. My guess is that the place is ‘ Panchgani ‘ , and in some scenes Table Land is recognisable. And quite a bit of winter fog is shown , which alongwith church bell sound gives it a haunting quality.
The composer is R. D. Burman. lyricist is Majrooh Sultanpuri. And the singer is Lata Mangeshkar.

Song-Na jaa o mere hamdam (Pyaar Ka Mausam)(1969) Singer-Lata, Lyrics-Majrooh Sultanpuri, MD-R D Burman
Lyrics
o o o
na ja
na jaa
na jaa
o o o
na jaa
na jaa
o o o
o o o
o o o
na jaa
o mere hamdam
naa jaaa
o mere hamdam
suno wafaa ki pukaar
chhod ke meraa pyaar
na jaa
o mere hamdam
main akeli hoon zamaane mein
meri duniya se jaao naa
mere honton ko hansi de ke
hansi hansi mein rulaao na
gayee baaton ko bhulaa bhi de
o mere sanam
na jaa
o mere hamdam
suno wafaa ki pukaar
chhod ke mera pyaar
na jaa
o mere hamdam
tere dil ki udaasi ko
zulfon se mehkaa doongi
teri sooni sooni baanhon mein
gora mukhdaa sajaa doongi
ab aayenge jo laut ke tere qadam
na jaa
o mere hamdam
suno wafaa ki pukaar
chhod ke mera pyaar
na jaa
o mere hamdam

Bahut bahut shukriya, Prakashchandra-ji! These songs skiped my mind.
In ‘Baharon ke Sapne’, there’s this wonderful Lata number…”Kya janu sajan, hoti hai kya gum ki shaam…”
Ha, Atul-ji, let’s start a ‘Please don’t go’ category of songs. Inaugural song? That fantastic Mulesh/Lata duet in ‘Jis Desh me Ganga Behthi Hai”…’Aa ab laut chale…’ Lata has taken her voice impossibly high with the least effort!

Mani ji, Prakash ji,
One more addition to this list of ‘Please don’t go’ songs.
The film ‘Pyaar Ka Mausam’ is a remake of ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai’ (1961). The title song “O Jiyaa O, Jiyaa O Jiyaa Kuchh Bol Do” is played twice in the film. Once it is Dev Anand singing it, sitting atop a moving car. Second time, it is Asha Parekh singing it, as she is following a ‘roottha hua Dev Anand’. The scenario is exactly this song in ‘Pyar Ka Mausam’, as Asha Parekh sings it following Shashi Kapoor. So once again, although the words are not saying it, but the emotion is the same – ‘Please don’t go’.

Asha Parekh seemed to have taken a patent for the “Please don’t go..” genre of songs! “Jaaiye aap kaha jayenge…” from ‘Mere Sanam’, “Mat jayyo naukariya chod ke…” from ‘Do Badan’, “O mere sona re sona re sona re…” from ‘Teesri Manzil’ are three songs of the ‘Please don’t go…’ situation……………….

Atul~ji, there’s another category of songs begging to be discussed. The ‘lost and found’ songs where the actors sing a song when they’re ‘half tickets’. They get scattered and separated by that dirty villain, ‘haalaath’! Eighteen reels later, thanks to the ‘bachpan ka geet’ they reunite!
Hai na achha category, Atul~ji? 😉
