Hamne maane ke tagaaful na karoge lekin
Posted on: August 8, 2012
We had discussed all the songs of “Mirza Ghalib” (1954) whose records were released according to the entries in HFGK (Hindi Film Geet Kosh). It turns out that there was another song in the movie which was there in the movie and for which records were apparently not made, or if made then this entry was not available in HFGK. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
Here is this remaining song from “Mirza Ghalib” (1954). The picturisation shows Suraiyya (playing Ghalib’s beloved) dying in the arms of Bharat Bhushan (playing Ghalib). This song , sung by Suraiyya, gets played in the background as Suraiyya’s body is being carried for burial.
This peotry is a Mirza Ghalib creation, as was the case with most other songs in the movie. Music is composed by Ghulam Mohammad.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
PS-Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our inhouse encyclopaedia, explains that the movie had two brief recitations, including this one, in the movie which were regarded as recitations rather than songs by the HFGK.
Song-Hamne maana ke tagaaful na karoge lekin (Mirza Ghalib)(1954) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Ghalib, MD-Ghulam Mohammad
Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)
hamne mana aa
ke tagaaful na karoge lekin
khaaq ho jaayenge ham
tumko khabar hone takk
khaaq ho jaayege ham
husn-e-gham ek kasaa kas(?) se chhutaa mere baad
baari aaraam se hai ahl-e-zafaa mere baad
shamaa bujhti hai to usme se dhuaan
aa aa
uthtaa hai ae
sholaa-e-ishq siyaa-posh hua mere baaad
gham se martaa ho ke itna nahin duniya mein koi
ee ee
kyun kare taaziyat-mehar-o-wafa mere baad
aaye hai bekasi-e-ishq pe rona ghalib
ishq ghar jaayega sailaab-e-balaa mere baad

These lyrics are an extract of another ghazal – “Aah ko chahiye ik umr asar hone tak”. The full ghazal is in the film, picturized on Suraiya. This could be the reason why this specific piece is not considered to be a separate song.

Atul ji,
There were only 11 songs in MIRZA GHALIB,and all 11 have been posted here.
There is a foot-note in HFGK,which reads-” In this film,Suraiya sang few lines-‘Hamne maana ki…’ and Rafi sang ‘ nahi Ishk me to iss ka ranj…’ as a shayari(Zafar’s).” -rough translation from Hindi.
There is a CD:CDF No. 1 32240 in which suraiya’s Shayari is included.
This means that these 2 were not songs but only recitations of shayari.
