Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Roothh na jaana tumse kahoon to

Posted on: August 12, 2012

“1942 A Love Story” (1993) was a movie which was produced by Vidu Vinod Chopra and directed by Vidu Vinod Chopra. The movie, despite its publicity, was no great shakes.

But the music of this movie was quite a revelation. This movie was released a few months after the death of R D Burman. When music lovers heard the music of this movie, they sat up and took notice. Some reviwers even went as far as to state that this was the music ever composed by R D Burman ! I am not one to indulge in such odious comparisons, but I was one of those music lovers who found the music of the movie quite divine. When I went on to watch the movie, I found the movie quite a let down. The movie was supposed to be a period movie on 1942 but all the characters dressed, looked and behaved like people of 1990s.

So the songs of this movie were better heard than watched. But people who do not bother that much with such matters may well find the songs nicely picturised. Those were the days when Manisha Koirala looked absolutely stunning and she was the leading lady in this movie and if people care about such details while not bothering about authenticity of period dressing may well find this movie a nice “historical” movie.

Here is a song from the movie. This song is sung by Kumar Sanu. The song is picturised on Anil Kapoor (then regarded by media as the next Superstar- which turned out to be famous last words) and Manisha Koirala.

Jawed Akhtar wrote the lyrics.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Peevesie.

“1942 A love story” (1994) had six songs in it. With this song. all the songs of the movie have been covered in the blog. Here are the links of the other songs of the movie:

Ek ladki ko dekha to aisa lagaa(1942 A Love Story)
Kuchh naa kaho kuchh bhi naa kaho (1942 A love story)
Pyaar huaa chupke se (1942 A Love Story)
Rimjhim rimjhim rumjhum rumjhum (1942 A Love Story)
Ye safar bahut hai kathin magar (1942 A Love Story)

Song-Rooth na jaana tum se kahoon to (1942 A Love Story)(1994) Singer- Kumar Sanu, Lyrics-Javed Akhtar, MD-R D Burman

Lyrics (Provided by Peevesie)

rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh
main in aankhon mein jo rahun toh
rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh
main in aankhon mein jo rahoon toh
tum ye jaano ya na jaano
tum ye maano ya na maano
mere jaisa deewana tum paaoge nahi
yaad karoge main jo nah hoon toh
rooth na jaana main jo kahoon toh

meri ye deewaangi kabhi na hogee kam
jitney bhi chahe tum karlo sitam
meri ye deewaangi kabhi na hogi kam
jitney bhi chahe tum karlo sitam
mujhse bolo ya na bolo
mujhko dekho ya na dekho
yeh bhi maana mujhse milne aaoge nahi
saare sitam hanske jo sahoon toh
rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh

prem ke dariya mein leheren hazaar
leheron mein jo bhi dooba hua wohi paar
prem ke dariya mein leheren hazaar
leheron mein jo bhi dooba hua wohi paar
oonchi neechi neechi oonchi neechi oonchi oonchi neechi
leheron mein tum dekhon kaise aaoge nahin
main in leheron mein dekhun bahoon toh
rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh
tum ye jaano ya na jaano
tum ye maano ya na maano
mere jaisa deewaana tum paaoge nahin
rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh
main in aankhon mein jo rahoon toh

rooth na jaana tum se kahoon toh
main in aankhon mein jo rahoon toh

Hindi script lyrics (Provided by Sudhir)
———————————————-

To get the facts right, the director of this movie was Vidhu Vinod Chopra and not Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The music of the movie was refreshing and popular. It won the Filmfare best music award that year.

thank you for pointing out the error Tushar. after 5 years of posting …wonder how it escaped attention .
Atulji please correct the error Sanjay Leela Bhansali didn’t have anything to do with the movie.
also fourth para says “Four songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie. ”
and here is what the last para says ““1942 A love story” (1994) had six songs in it. All the songs of the movie have been covered in the blog. Here are the links of the other songs of the movie:”
we need to correct the mismatch

Sanjay Leela Bhansali did have many things to do with the movie 1942 a love story

1)as associate director:Songs(in Music Department)
2)also as associate director for dubbing(in Sound Department)
3)also shares Writing Credits of Screenplay with others

There is one more correction that needs to be done. In the year-wise songs list,, the songs from this movie are listed under 1993. It should be actually under 1994. The movie released in July 1994. So it should be listed under 1994. Please make the correction as the information we provide should be accurate.
