“Baawarchi”(1972) was produced by Hrishikesh Mukherji and N C Sippy and directed by Hrishikesh Mukherji. The movie had Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bhaduri, Usha Kiran, Manisha, A. K. Hangal, Harindranath Chattopadhyay, Suraj, Paintal, Kali Banerjee, Durga Khote, Asrani etc in it.
Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from the movie.
This song is a stage song cum semi classical song. The song is sung by Lata and it is picturised on Jaya Bhaduri who is masquerading as a dancer on stage. Durga Khote, seated among the audience is quite unhappy about something though Harindranath Chattopadhyay appears quite impressed with Jaya Bhaduri’s “dancing”. Jaya Bhaduri surprisingly ends up winning the dance competition despite this non dance. 🙂
Peevesie, who sent me the lyrics of this song, thought that the lyrics were written by Gulzar but she was surprised to realise that Kaifi Azmi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

Durga Khote is unhappy because her own daughter is losing out to her niece Jaya Bhaduri in the dance competition. Harindranath is happy because her grand daughter Jaya who sort of grew up without parents; had to do the household chores and had no time/resources for learning dance is winning instead of the other grand daughter, who is the spoiled and pampered one….
