on:“Khamoshi” was a Geetanjali Pictures production. It was produced by Asit Sen (different from the comedian of the same name). This movie had Rajesh Khanna, Waheeda Rehman, Lalita Pawar, Ajit Chatterji, Iftekhar, Tarun Ghosh, Nazir Hussain, Snehlata, Anwar, Deven Verma, Naina etc in it.
Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. And all of them were all time classic songs that most music lovers are familiar with.
Here is another song from this movie. I was not aware of this song. Most music lovers, who have not watched this movie could well be unaware of this song like me.
This song is sung by Aarti Mukherji. Gulzar is the lyricist. Music is composed by Hemant Kumar.
This song is wonderful to listen to, but it is a very brief song, less than one minute long. I wonder if it was actually meant to be that way. If so, then it will be interesting to know if the records of this song were made. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this song.
Song-Aaj ki raat charaagon ki lau oonchi kar lo (Khamoshi)(1969) Singer-Aarti Mukherji, Lyrics-Gulzar, MD-Hemant Kumar
Lyrics
aaj ki raat charaagon ki lau oonchi kar lo
aaj ki raat charaagon ki lau oonchi kar lo
ho sake to dil ki aag aanchal mein bhar lo
apni aag mein jalnaa hogaa
aaj akele chalnaa hogaa
andhere mein jalnaa hogaa
aaj akele chalnaa hogaa

I have seen ‘Khamoshi’ so many times. But I’ve never heard this song! Perhaps I wasn’t paying attention. After all, all the other songs are immortal! By the way Atul-ji, you have forgotten to mention Dharmendra who had such an unforgettable role in ‘Khamoshi’. He also sang that famous “Tum pukar lo, tumhara intizar hai…’. I can never forget the pain, sorrow, despair and resignation as she comes to meet him for the last time. He has been completely cured. Unfortunately, he has totally forgotten Waheeda, the wonderful nurse. She slowly walks back the way she came. And out of Dharmendra’s life. That scene is still one of the most gut wrenching scenes in Hindi movies…..

Atul ji,
HFGK lists only 4 songs in this film.Besides the 3 songs already featuring here, the only song remaining is -” Dost kahan koi tumsa” by Manna Dey.
I think, the above may not be considered a song, but may have been only a background pep up lyric, while Waheeda is treating the Hero.
As I have not seen the film,I can only guess.
