Kyaa ajab saaz hai ye shehnaayi

on:“Shehnaayi” (1964) was a New Oriental Pictures production. It was directed by S D Narang. The movie had Biswajeet, Rajshree, Johnny Walker, Veena, Chaand Usmani, Nirupa Roy, Asit Sen, Iftekhar, Leela Chitnis, D. K. Sapru, Parveen Choudhary etc in it.
Five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the sixth song from this movie. This song is a stage song, where Biswajeet is picturised lip syncing this song in a packed hall. The word “shehnaay” figures repeatedly in this song, so this song is a theme song as well as the title song of this movie too.
Rafi is the singer. Lyrics are written by Rajinder Krishan and music is composed by Ravi.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)
kya ajab saaz hai yeh shehnaayi
do hi sur ka yeh khel saara hai
kya ajab saaz hai yeh shehnaayi
do hi sur ka yeh khel saara hai
ek sur zindagi ka saahil hai
doosra maut ka kinaara hai
ek sur zindagi ka saahil hai
doosra maut ka kinaara hai
kya ajab saaz hai yeh shehnaayi
do hi sur ka yeh khel saara hai
yeh baje to hayaat ki mehfil
poore joban pe aake jam jaaye
zindagi ek khawaab ho jaaye
yeh agar bajte bajte thham jaaye
yeh kabhi chaand chaudhvin ka hai
aur kabhi subah ka sitaara hai
yeh kabhi chaand chaudhvin ka hai
aur kabhi subah ka sitaara hai
kya ajab saaz hai yeh shehnaayi
do hi sur ka yeh khel saara hai
aah aur waah ka yeh sangam hai
soz aur saaz ki jawaani hai
aah aur waah ka yeh sangam hai
soz aur saaz ki jawaani hai
hai agar yeh shabaab ka qissa
ek bewaa ki bhi kahaani hai
qehqahon ka hi aabshaar nahin
aansuon ka bhi ek dhaara hai
qehqahon ka hi aabshaar nahin
aansuon ka bhi ek dhaara hai
kya ajab saaz hai yeh shehnaayi
do hi sur ka yeh khel saara hai

is it my imagination or is this song trying to imitate the title somg of “Mere Mehboob”. even the way Biswajeet is posing through the song seems to be a case of copy-cat. i ve seen 1/2 of this movie ages ago & can’t remember this song

come to think…somewhat…there is some sort of residue in it 🙂
But than it’s from same era…in later years we find..some similarity which wasn’t obviously noticeable than.
