Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Teri galiyon mein ham aaye

Posted on: September 5, 2012

Today (5 september) is Salil Chaudhary’s death anniversary. Salil Chaudhary was one Hindi movie music. Or it would be more appropriate to say that he was a pioneer of Indian movie music. He composed music in movies of as many as ten languages. Majority of these movies were in Bangla, Hindi and Malayalam though.

If Salil Chaudhary was the music director of a song then one could take it for granted that a musical feast was in offer. It is reported that Salil Chaudhary was a good cook too and he got the ideas for several of his tunes while cooking a delicacy in his kitchen. I hope that I am not confusing Salil Chaudhary with some other cookery loving music director.

On the occasion of Salil Chaudhary’s death anniversary today, here is a memorable song from a lesser known movie called “Minoo”(1977). This movie was a Hena Films (Pvt.) ltd production. It was directed by Parshuram and Pushp Raj. The movie had Baby Moonmoon, Dinesh Thakur, Radha Saluja, Nandita Thakur, Padma Khanna, Jagdeep, Anwar Hussain, Dulari, Sudhir, Manmauji, Ranjeet Sood etc in it.

The movie has a serious strory line revolving around a small girl child. She is hoping that her mother will bring a small kid brother for her to play with. Her mother never returns from hospital. Her father remarries and the small girl’s world is not the same again.

As can be guessed, majority of Hindi movie goers are not matured enough to appreciate movies made on off beat and sensitive topics. Little wonder then that the movie had few takers and the movie was soon forgotten.

Fortunately the songs of this song cannot be forgotten if one gets the opportunity to listen to them.

Here is a song from “Minoo” (1977). It is sung by Manna Dey and Antara Chaudhary (Salil Chaudhary’s daughter). Yogesh is the lyricist.

The song is picturised on Anwar Hussain and Baby Moonmmon. It is a beggar song . I mentioned it earlier that the girl falls on hard days after the death of her mother.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

hum pe ho jaaye karam haaye jo tera
apni kismet bhi sanwar jaaye zaraa
teri galiyon mein hum aaye ae

I had to listen this song because Antara…yester day I saw her picture; in that her grendma(dadimaa) was holding her in her arms!
Presently, She has done lots of songs for the children.
Oh, what a lucky girl to sing with Manna Dey 🙂

Lovely composition.
heard it a lot those days of vividh bharti..

Really a Forgotten gem it is.
Thanks for reminding it.

I remember watching a special episode on one of the Indian channel, TV Asia in which Antara was interviewed by the host, Shiraz Sharif. She shared many memories of her Father with the viewers. Thanks Atulji and Prakashji for reminding this song.

Down memory lane … i have not watched this movie, but yes this song is in my permanent memory since childhood and in my list of ‘songs that bring back memories’. Remember, it was on radio frequently, may be on ‘Vividh Bharati’ as Alpana ji has noted.
And as rightly put up by Atul ji, these kind of songs cannot be forgotten if one gets to listen to them.

Many thanks to Prakash ji for bringing it here !!!

Music Director Salil Chowdhary co-produced this movie`s Kannada Version namely “Chinna Ninna Muddaaduve”(starring Late VishnuVardhan,Jayanthi,Ambarish-1977) and that kannada version was a hit in Karnataka and its music also appreciated very much(Songs sung by S.Janaki,Yesudass)
video link to the kannada song,(sung by S.P.Balasubramaniam, and Anita chowdhury(must be Antara chowdhury herself with a name containing a somewhat different spelling:Lyricist:R.N.Jayagopal)which has got the same tune(featuring Ambareesh,Baby Indira,M.N.Laxmidevi

The same tune was used in Malayalam by Salilda for a movie called Ragam (1975)
