Do nigaahen teri do nigaahen meri

on:It is my observation that the careers of many actors in Hindi movies were made and sustained thanks to the great music that their movies had. It is difficult to imagine these movies becoming hits without their hit music. And as we all know, Hindi moviegoers are initially attracted towards movie halls because of the music and these songs are often one of the biggest selling points of these movies. Movies without songs have a hard time finding distributors.
Shammi Kapoor, an undercomfident and struggling actor, a far cry from his by now well known and well loved image from his makes for a fascinating and interesting read and these details can be found in this article.
Though the stories of Hindi movies have mostly been male centric but the centre of attraction of these movies is of couse the heroine of the movie. The hero, no matter he is poor or rich, seems to have no other aim in life but to chase, tease and woo the leading lady by singing songs. The lady, after playing coy and hard to get, begins to respond by lip syncing songs as well.
After nearly a decade long struggle, Asha Bhonsle made her mark as an important female playback singer in late 1950s. The credit for this goes to music directors like S D Burman and Ravi who began to use her voice as their main female playback voice in their movies. Then O P Nayyar and Asha Bhonsle discovered each other, and the rest, as they say, was history.
O P Nayyar had composed music for Shammi Kapoor’s career changing and image defining movie “Tumsa Nahin Dekha” (1957). Subsequently, he would also compose music for Shammi Kapaoor during the peak of his career in “Kashmir KI Kali”(1964).
In between the two movies, O P Nayyar composed music forat least another Shammi Kapoor movie. This movie was “Mujrim” (1958). Though this movie is not as well known as the other two movies mentioned earlier, it had some nice music in it as well.
Here is a song from “Mujrim” (1958). In this song one finds Raagini responding favourably to Shammi Kapoor’s advances and begins lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. I hope I am right in assuming that this song is in response to some prior lip syncing on Shammi Kapoor’s part. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw more light on this matter.
The song is written by Majrooh Sultanpuri.

Lyrics(Provided by Khyati Bhatt)
do nigaahen teri
do nigaahen meri
milkar chaar huin
jigar ke paar huin
pyaar ne lee angdaayee
do nigaahen teri
do nigaahen meri
milkar chaar huin
jigar ke paar huin
pyaar ne lee angdaayee
do nigaahen teri
aa ha ha
aa ha ha ha
aaj mere armaanon ka
rang bhara gulzaar basaa aa
pyaar ke do deewaanon ka
ek naya sansaar basa
aa mere sainyaan thhaam le baiyaan
phirti hoon balkhaaye
aa mere sainyaan thhaam le bainyaan
phirti hoon balkhaaye
do nigaahen teri
do nigaahen meri
milkar chaar hui
jigar ke paar hui
pyaar ne lee angdayee
do nigaahen teri
aa ha ha
aa ha ha ha
chhaa gaya zulfon ka saawan
phail gayi kaajal ki ghata
doob gaya ras mein tan man
bhig gayi??? hawa
ruk gayi dhadkan
chhup gayi chitwan
bijli si lehraayi
ha aa aa
ruk gayi dhadkan
chhup gayi chitwan
bijli si lehraayi
do nigaahen teri
do nigaahen meri
milkar chaar hui
jigar ke paar hui
pyaar ne lee angdayee
do nigaahen teri
aa ha ha
haa aa aa aa
baahon mein teri jhool gayi
rut bhi haseen hai dil bhi jawaan
aaj main sab kuchh bhool gayi
chal matwaale chaahe jahaan
kho gayi main to
so gayi main to
haay re raam duhaayi
ha aa aa aa
kho gayi main to
so gayi main to
haay re raam duhaayi
do nigaahen teri
do nigaahen meri
milkar chaar huin
jigar ke paar huin
pyaar ne lee angdayee
do nigaahen teri
aa ha ha ha
aa ha ha ha
aa ha ha ha
aa ha ha ha
