Teri neeli neeli aankhon ke dil pe teer chal gaye

Posted on: September 28, 2012

When we like songs, we tend to gain information about the songs (name of the movie, actors lip syncing it etc) in due course. And then there are songs whose information continue to be nebulous though that does not stop us from enjoying these songs.

Here is a song that people have enjoyed listening to without being aware of its details. At least that has been the case with me. One can make out by listening to the song that it is a duet sung by Lata and Rafi, but that is all the information I had at that time.

Much later, I have become aware of the details of the song. I find that this song was from “Jaane Anjaane” (1971). This movie did not do much at the box office and was forgotten soon. Personally I did not ever know about the existence of this song even though I was getting to listen to this song through loudspeakers and radios during those days.

“Jaane Anjaane” (1971) was a Shakti Films Production. It was produced and directed by Shakti Samanta. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Leena Chandavarkar, Sandhya Roy, Vinod Khanna, Helen, Sulochana Latkar, Lalita Pawar, K. N. Singh, Dhumal, Sajjan, Gulshan Bawra, Birbal, Murad, Sadhna Patel, Kanu Roy, Sujata Bakshi, Kundan, Sachin, Master Shahid, Satyendra Kapoor, A. K. Tiwari, Darshan, Jayant etc in it.

As can be noticed, this movie had come at a time when Shammi Kapoor was past his prime as a hero and new generation of heroes, spearheaded by Rajesh Khanna had taken over.

Four decades have passed after this song was released. This song was popular during its time, but it was not popular enough to make it to the Binaca geetmala final of 1971. 1971 was that kind of a year.

What a song it is ! The song sounds as fresh today that it sounded to my ears four decades ago. This is timeless music at its best.

Hasrat Jaipuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

The lyrics of this song were sent to me by Atif M.

Song-Teri neeli neeli aankhon ke dil pe teer chal gaye(Jaane Anjaane)(1971) Singers- Lata, Rafi, Lyrics-Hasrat Jaipuri, MD-Shankar Jaikishan

Lyrics(Provided by Atif M)

teri neeli neeli aankhon ke
dil pe teer chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye
teri neeli neeli aankhon ke
dil pe teer chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye

soona thha sansaar hamaara
tu ne aan basaaya
o shehzaadi
tujh ko pa kar
maine sab kuchh paaya
arrey
soona thha sansaar hamaara
tu ne aan basaaya
o shehzaadi
tujh ko pa kar
maine sab kuchh paaya
mere khoye khoye sapne bhi
dilbar aaj mil gaye
mil gaye
mil gaye
mil gaye

teri neeli neeli aankhon ke
dil pe teer chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye

maine apne man mandir mein
saajan tujh ko basaaya
tu mere nainon ka kaajal
palkon beech sajaaya
ho maine apne man mandir mein
saajan tujh ko basaaya
tu mere nainon ka kaajal
palkon beech sajaaya
teri meethi meethi baaton pe
hum to haaye lut gaye
lut gaye
lut gaye
lut gaye
yeh dekh ke duniya waalon ke
dil jal gaye
jal gaye
jal gaye
jal gaye

jeewan bhar hum saath rahenge
karte hain yeh waada
tujh par apni jaan bhi denge
apna hai yeh iraada
arrey jeewan bhar hum saath rahenge
karte hain yeh waada
tujh par apni jaan bhi denge
apna hai yeh iraada
tere bhole bhaale mukhde pe
hum to haaye mit gaye
mit gaye
mit gaye
mit gaye

teri neeli neeli aankhon ke
dil pe teer chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye
chal gaye

Nice to have this post. Rafi and lata as usual always full of ‘soul’ with the lyrics !!!

Atul Ji, I see that you re-posted this song again today, and then removed the song. I think you could add the writeup into this page, as I found it a very interesting read.

By the way, I guess there is only one song left in this movie to be discussed, “Jaane Anjaane Log” sung by Kishore Kumar.
