Ambuaa ki daali daali jhoom rahi hai aali

“Vidyapati” (1937) was directed by Debaki Bose. This movie had Pahadi Sanyal in the title role with Kanan Devi acting opposite him. This movie also had Prithviraj Kapoor, Chhaya Devi, K C Dey, Kidar Sharma and Leela Desai.
As many as five songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is another song from the movie.
This song is sung by Kanan Devi. Only the audio of this song is available but it is clear that the song was picturised on her as well.
Kidar Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by R C Boral.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
The audio quality of the link is not good and it is quite brief too. But that is the only link I have been able to find, I request our knowledgeable readers to tell us about better links of this song. I vaguely recall having heard this song in better audio quality and longer length in the past. This song is an invaluable treasure from the past and it needs to be preserved.
PS-After Derubala ji showing me the link to the duet version, I have been able to get hold of a good quality duet version of this song. Listening to this version is a divine experience.
Now I am informed by Mr Arunkumar Deshmukh, our beloved inhouse encyclopaedia that this duet song was sung by Ram pyaari and Kidar Sharma in the movie version and by Kanan Devi and Dhumi Khan in the record version. The song discussed here is the record version, so it is sung by the later pair of singers.

A video clip – albeit of somewhat poor quality – of the solo version is available at http://youtu.be/5-e5WOyqiR0.

Arunji,
Deep down….I knew the male voice wasn’t K.C. Dey nor Pahadi…
Now makes sense 🙂
Thanks.

It’s a news that the song in the film was sung by Kidar sharma. He did not have a good voice at all, certainly not fit for singing. I met him only once but can vouch for his voice being unfit for singing unless it transformed itself against microphone which is a possibility not ruled out. But what a nerve he had I must confess. To convince a director like Debki Bose of his capability as a play back singer was a near impossible task. It adds another feather to the cap of versatile Kidar Sharma who was all in one kind of a person so far as film is concerned and a ton of thanks to Sh. Arun Deshmukh for this valuable information.
