Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Aaj madhosh huaa jaaye re

Posted on: November 7, 2012

“Sharmilee” (1971) was a Subodh Mukherji production movie. It was directed by Samir Ganguly. The movie had Shashi Kapoor, Rakhi, Nazir Hussain, Narendranath, Ranjeet, Uma Dhawan, Dulari, Asit Sen, Anita Dutt, Kundan, Iftekhar, Rashid Khan, Jayshree T, Krishnakant etc in it.

The songs of this movie were extremely popular during its time. I would have dearly loved to watch this movie at that time, but I finally got to watch this movie only some eight years later, and that is obviously no substitute for watching a movie during its first run, especially when one is an impressionable pre teen during the first run of the movie.

This movie had seven songs in it. As many as six songs from this movie (one of them a multiple version song) have already been discussed. The seventh song too would have been discussed many months ago, since the lyrics of this song were sent to me by Peevesie’s mom quite some time back. But for one reason or the other, I was unable to discuss this song. This often happens with me because at any moment of time I am inundated under big floods of songs.

This seventh and final song from “Sharmilee” (1971) is a fantasy song where Rakhi (there are two of them in this movie as Rakhi has a double role) fantasizes about the blisses of married life.

The song is sung by Lata and Kishore Kumar. Neeraj is the lyricist. Music is composed by S D Burman.

The song is picturised on Rakhi and Shashi Kapoor. The picturisation shows Rakhi getting pregnant by the middle of the song and then having a baby by the end of the song. If one looked carefully (like Peevesie’s mom did), Rakhi continues to look pregnant throughout the picturisation, even after having the baby because she actually was in the family way during the picturisation of this song.

With this song, “Sharmilee”(1971) joins the ranks of the movies having all their songs covered in the blog.

Lyrics(Provided by Peevesie’s mom)

Aaj madhosh hua jaaye re

o ri kali

o ri leher
pehna tu paayal
o ri nadi
dikha tu darpan
o ri kiran
odha tu aanchal
ek jogan hai bani aaj dulhan
ho o o
aao ud jaaye kahin banke pawan
ho o o
aaj madhosh hua jaaye re
mera man
mera man
mera man
sharaarat karne ko lalchaaye re
mera man
mera man
mera man

he
yahaan humein zamana dekhe

toh
aao chalo kahin chhup jaayen
achcha
yahaan humein zamana dekhe
aao chalo kahin chhup jaye
bheega bheega nasheela din hain
kaise kaho pyaase reh paayen

main hoon tera
teri kasam
ho o o

main teri
tu hain mera
meri kasam ho
ho o o
aaj madhosh hua jaye re
mera man
mera man
mera man
sharaarat karne ko lalchaaye re
mera man
mera man
mera man

rom rom bahey surdhaara
ang ang bajey shehnaai
rom rom bahey surdhaara
ang ang baje shehnaai
jeevan saara
mila ek pal main
jaane kaisee ghadi yeh aayi
chhoo liya aaj maine saara gagan
ho o o
naache man aaj mora choom chhanan
ho o o
aaj madhosh hua jaaye re
mera man
mera man
mera man
sharaarat karne ko lalchaaye re

bina hi baat muskuraaye re
mera man
mera man
