“Mere Sanam”(1965) was a Sippy Films Production movie. It was produced by G P Sippy and directed by Amar Kumar. The movie had Biswajeet, Asha Parekh, Pran, Rajendranath, Mumtaz, Dhumal, Achla Sachdev, Nazir Hussain, Asit Sen etc in it.
This movie had nine songs in it. As many as eight of these songs have already been discussed in the past.
This ninth and final song goes “Haji Haji Haji arre Haji baba”. Listening to just the audio gives the impression that the song is picturised around the Haji Ali dargah. But when one watches the picturisation, it is very much a club dance song where Asha Parekh is dressed like a middle east dancer with her face covered by a purha lite and lip syncing in Asha Bhonsle’s voice. The group dancers do not have any purda on their faces, rather black booth polish have been smeared generously on their faces to make them appear black. 🙂 Then sing in chorus. Rafi sings one line in each of the stanzas but the lip syncer in Rafi’s voice is not visible.
Bishwajeet is there in the gathering (undisguised, much to my surprise) alongwith Pran. The place is teeming with menacing looking baddies sporting weapons, holding hostages etc. It is clear that they are all waiting for the song to finish so that they may proceed further.
Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. The litling music is composed by O P Nayyar.
