“Aarti” (1962) was the debut movie of Tarachand Barjatya’s Rajshree Production. It was produced by Phani Majumdar. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Pradeep Kumar, Shashikala etc.
This movie set the traditions of Rajshree productions movie where simple heartwarming story and great music would be the stront ponts of the movie.
“Aarti” (1962) had some wonderful songs in it that have gone on to become timeless classics. As many as six songs from this movie hhave already been discussed in the past.
Here is the seventh song from the movie. This song is sung by Rafi and Asha Bhonsle.
The song shows Mehmood romancing his lady love in her house while her (hard of hearing) mother has left her room and Mehmood has bribed the servant (Keshto Mukherji) to leave the duo in peace. I am unable to identify the lady playing Mehmood’s love interest. In fact I was not ware that Mehmood figured in this movie. The fact that Mehmood is present in this movie is not memntioned in most online references (these references copy from each other in any case). Here I find that Mehmood is not only there in this movie but he gets to sing a romantic duet too !
Rajendranath, apparently the other suitor of the lady arrives and realises that the duo are busy singing the duet. He brings this fact to the notice of the elderly lady by making her hear to the song by putting a hearing aid to her ears. “She keeps singing all the time”- she tells Rajendranath handing the hearing aid back to him. “It is not just she, there is one He too singing with her”, he tells her handing her back the hearing aid. This time the lady finds two voices including a male voice singing the song. and in true Hindi movie songs tradition, she is not amused and proceeds to go upstairs to investivate the matter.

PS-The lip syncing lady is Vijaya Chaudhary and the elderly lady is Pravin Paul. I thank Mr Pratap for this identification.

‘Na Bhanwara No koi Gul’ is also an excellent song, sung in a train bogey; But Two more songs, one on Mehmood & another on Rajendra Nath, were also added in the movie after its 15-17 weeks’ run & as long as I remember, both were in colour!!

I have links for two more duets supposedly from “Aarti” (1962)

2. uyi maa pyaar ki boliyaan bolti main – Rafi, Asha
But there is some confusion, with the links available on youtube, which are only audio links. Earthmusic.net is also listing these songs as from Aarti (Majrooh, Roshan). The music score of this film is not complete yet.

Is there a son or grandson of K. N. Singh, working in films nowadays ? An actor in Aamir Khan’s ‘Talaash” who is Amir Khan’s Assistant in the film, has similar face and voice as K. N. Singh.

The lady love is Vijaya Chaudhary. The mother appeared in many films, perhaps her name is Praveen Paul.
