Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Ek thhaa raajaa ek thhi raani

Posted on: December 2, 2012

“Hariyaali Aur Raasta”(1962) was a Shri Prakash Pictures Production. It was produced by Shankar Bhai Bhatt and directed by Vijay Bhatt. The movie had Mala Sinha, Manoj Kumar, Shashikala, Surendra Nath, Om Prakash, Helen, Manmohan Krishna, Krishna Kumari, Jagdeep, Samar Roy, Champaklala, Ram Mohan, Aroorn, Moppet Raja, Baby Farida, Sandeep Chopra etc in it.

As many as seven songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the eighth song from this movie. This song is sung by Lata. The picturisation shown Mala Sinha, playing a nurse, tending to a young boy (played by Moppet Raja). The boy is restless and he asks Mala Sinha to tell him a story, and on being told that she does not know any stories, cannot believe it. “What, you do not know any stories !” He exclaims. I used to tell my daughter the same thing when she was young and she would ask me to tell her stories. But she would get her way and here too the boy gets his way and Mala Sinha agrees to tell her a story.

The tale that she tells in this song is ofcourse her own story, disguised as the story of a raja and a rani. The kid is of course not into such nitpicking and the ong soon acts as a lullaby on him and he falls asleep. Tht also alllows Mala Sinha to shed a few glycerine drops freely while the song draws to a close.

Shailendra is the lyricist. Music is composed by Shankar Jaikishan.

Prakashchandra, who sent me the lyrics of this song a while ago believes that this is the final song from this movie. Assuming that to be the case, “Hariyaali Aur Raasta” (1962) now joins the list of movies that have all their songs discussed in the blog.

Thanks a lot Atul for lullaby. In present days films lullabies are not heard at all.Present generation kids probably do not sleep.Their lullaby is computer. In earlier films almost every second film had a lullaby and that too with beautiful lyrics and weetly composed. The best lullaby which really haunts me even today is 1943 Ashok Kumar and Mumtaz Shanti starrer Kismet.’Dhere dhere aa re badal dheredhere aa mera bulbul so raha hai—‘.It has two versions one sung by Amirbai Karnatki picturise on Mumtaz Shanti anothera duet sung by Amirbai Karnatki and Ashok Kumar. The film version is by Ashok Kumar but the disc version is by arun kumar reasons best known to music director Anil Biswas and the producer S. Mukherjee. As I am new to this blog so I do not know whether you have covered this movie or not.If not pls.cover it.Once more thanksa lot.

‘Hariyaali aur Raasta’ one of all time favorite movies and all its songs are very beautfiul. jaisa ki Deshmukh sir ne pehle ek article mein likhaa tha, ke us samay ghar buzurg logon ke saath aisi film dekhne jaaya karte the. Maine bhi bachpan ye film apni Daadi maa, Buaa, Chacha, chachi aur Aai-Baba ke saath milkar hi dekhi thi aur ye film we log pehle bhi dekh chuke the magar jab bhi dobara talkies mein aati to baar baar dekhte aur Akola (jo ki CP & Berar ka hissa kehlata hai -abhi Vidarbha mein hai) wahaan filmein dekhne ka mazzaa bahot aata aur wo bhi talkies mein.
Thanks Prakash ji and Atul ji !!!
