Kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan

Posted on: December 8, 2012

“Oonche Log” (1965) was a Chitrakala Production movie. It was directed by Phani Majumdar. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Raj Kumar, Feroz Khan, K. R. Vijaya, Kanhaiyalal, Tarun Bose, Kumud Tripathi etc in it.

Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the fourth song from this movie.

This song is a duet. It is sung by Manna Dey and Asha Bhonsle. Majrooh Sultanpuri is the lyricist. Music is composed by Chitragupta.

This song is picturised as a beggar song cum rail song. Two beggars (one elderly and other a child) sing this song in a train in which Feroz Khan is travelling. I am unable to identify the actors lip syncing the song. I request our knowledgeable readers to help identify the actors.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

kaisi tooe reet rachi bhagwaan
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
paap kare paapi bhare punyawaan
ajab teri duniya ajab insaan
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
paap kare paapi bhare punyawaan
ajab teri duniya ajab insaan

dosh to hai ye andhiyaare ka
haath na soojhe haathon ko

dosh to hai ye andhiyare ka
haath na soojhe haathon ko
deep bechaara nirdoshi ho
roz hai jalta raaton ko
sach roye aur jhooth hanse
main na samjhoon in baaton ko re
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
paap kare papi bhare punyawaan
ajab teri duniya ajab insaan

dosh to hai kapti Raawan ka
punya ko jo chhal kar jeeta

dosh to hai kapti Raawan ka
punya ko jo chhal kar jeeta
aur sama gayi iss dharti mein
Raam ki manchaahi Seeta
uttar de bhagwan
tujhe to
chup hote kayi yug beeta re
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
kaisi toone reet rachi bhagwaan
paap kare papi bhare punyawaan
ajab teri duniya ajab insaan

Movie ke title sequence mein Raadhey shyaam ka naam hai.The elderly guy who lip syncs for the song may be Raadheshyam, But I had always seen him in “Mandir ke poojari” ke get up. Resemblences are there, but I can`t say that it is Radhey shyaam. I am not 100% sure.
Chances are 50-50 🙂 🙂

What a movie. One must watch it. Excellent performances by Feroz, Ashok Kumar and Raj Kumar.

This song comes at a crucial time, close to the climax, and is one of those ‘loaded with meaning’ songs which fit the situation to the T. Feroz has committed a crime for which an innocent person has paid, hence “paap kar paapi, bhare punyawan”

Ava ji,
Yes, a great film by acting standards. All characters have done very well, be it Ashok Kumar, Raajkumar, Feroze Khan, Tarun Bose. A very well directed film too, managing a difficult theme of clash of values.

Pradeep ji,
This song is the Yippee moment for this film. All four songs are now posted. 🙂

Aa gaya main aa gaya. Der aaye, par durust aaye ;). Yeh post to main dekha hee nahi. Dhanyavwaad Sudhir Ji aur Khyati Ji.

Yippeeee! 4 gaane aur saare gaane ho gaye? Yeh kyaa baat hui? Lekin yeh sach hai :). With this song, all the songs from the movies have been covered from the movie and Oonche Log (1965) joins the ranks of movies where all songs have been covered on the blog. We are surely going to cross 200 movies by end of year. Atul Ji, what is the latest count of Yippeeee! movies?
