Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Itni badi duniya mein main laachaar hoon akela

Posted on: December 13, 2012

Here is a song about which very little is known. This song is sung by Rafi and it is mentioned by a few YT uploaders that this song is from an unreleased movie of 1940s called “Nazrana”. Apparently C Ramchandra composed the music for this song.

This song, as a result is an “orphan” song with very little information about it. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw mre light about the deatils of this song.

The song itself is a gem, and it deserves to be much better known among music lovers.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by nahm.

Song-Itni badi duniya mein main laachaar hoon akela (Nazrana)(1948)(UR) Singer-Rafi, Lyrics-Gopal Singh Nepali, MD-C Ramchandra

Lyrics(Provided by nahm)

phagun ka mast maheen a hai
mausam hai albelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa

in mehlon banglon baagh mein
gulzaar hai zamaana
par meraa to mushkil se
kisi kone mein hai thikaana
meri galiyaan sunsaan hain
auron ka lagaa melaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa

bachpan to beeta khel mein
ghar chhoota jawaani mein
dukh sehte chale ham behte chale
duniyaa ki rawaani mein
marne par apna bas nahin
jeene mein hai jhamelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa

duniyaa mein jo dil rakhte hain
daulat bhi unhi se door hai
duniyaa banaayi jis ne woh
apne nashe mein choor hai
bas dekhne ko sab diyaa
bas dekhne ko sab diyaa
rakhne na diyaa dhelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa
itni badi duniyaa mein
main laachaar hoon akelaa

The lyrics of this song reminds me of another song sung by Rafi-saab in an obscure movie called ‘Toofan mein pyaar kahan’ that was released in 1966. That song’s lyrics by Prem Dhawan also reflects the singer’s ‘akelapan’…”Itni badi duniya, yahaan itna bada mela…..magar main,,,itna akela” Music was given by Chitragupt. It starred Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaywant, so it’s safe to presume that Ashok Kumar sings it in the movie.
A Lata-Rafi chorus, “Aadhi raatko khanak gaya mera kangana….” was quite popular on Radio Ceylon and Vividh Bharati.

Never heard this song until now. Rafi’s voice in this song sounds like that of his songs in the 50s.
The style of music composition is very close to that of of Husnlal-Bhagatram/Vinod.

This songs is not mentioned in the excel sheet of Rafi songs too. I have looked in the words column, both starting line options and the movie option, but the song is not there.

I have found another song from this same film on youtube, a Lata solo. The lyrics of the song too are with Atul ji. Maybe that song can throw more light on this film and the songs.

If it is not there in the geet kosh too, than it is indeed an ‘orphan’ .

Atul ji,
NAZARANA-1948 was a film completed but not released for reasons not known. It was a Himalaya Films presentation. This social film was directed by Jagdish pant and C.Ramchandra had recorded 5 songs on lyrics by G.S.Nepali.
The cast was Kanu Roy,kamini kaushal,Heera Sawant,Shyama,Ansarikesharbai,Geetabali etc.
The songs consisted of 2 duets by Shamshad with Chitalkar, and 3 solos by Rafi,Lata and Shamshad each.

Thanks for this valuable information.

Mention of Shamshad Begum above made me curious and searched for thes ongs. Here are a few I found. There may be mistakes since I do not know Hindi well and several films with the same name are mentioned. There may be repetitions, and all seemed interesting to me. Please ignore if these are already mentioned.
