“Ziddi” (1964), not to be confused with “Ziddi”(1948) was a Pramod Films Production. It was produced and directed by Pramod Chgakravorty. The movie had Joy Mukherjee, Asha Parekh, Mehmood, Shobha Khote, Dhumal, Raj Mehra, Sulochana, Ullhas, Madan Puri, Nazima, Majnu, etc in it.

Mention of the name Uma Devi, almost invariably brings to mind the peerless melody – ‘Afsaana Likh Rahin Hoon Dil e Beqaraar Ka’ from the film Dard (1947). And then, in the current memory, there is very little else that emerges from depth of yesteryears. But the fact is that Uma Devi (later also known as the comedienne Tun Tun) was fairly active as a playback singer in the 40s and early 50s. And there is a fairly good number of memorable songs that she has rendered during her short career as a playback singer.

I had heard popular songs from ‘Kismet’ (1943) in my childhood. But it took another two decades for me to know that Anil Biswas composed those immortal songs. It was during one of the sittings in my friend’s house sometime in early 70s when I listened for the first time a song from ‘Taraana’ ( 1951)- seene me sulagte hain armaan that I came to know of him as music director. Subsequently,I heard many of his songs from films of 40s and 50s and I started liking those songs. It took me another four decades to know about Anil Biswas’s detailed profile and filmography by which time I realised that he was an institution by himself.

Feroza Begum was the better-half of the famed music director Kamal Dasgupta who composed many Bangla movie and private songs and some unforgettable Hindi ones too – in particular for Jawab (1942) and Hospital (1943) which numbers are very much availableon this blog.
