gayaa december, jaane do
aayee january, aane do

Thus ended my last post from yesterday, and I suppose it is only right to begin on the very same note, where we left off. . . last year :).

Greetings all and welcome to 2013, and we kick off another round of this adventure in music.

And here is wishing you all a very pleasing, a very satisfying, a very successful, and a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all friends and readers on this blog. May this new cycle of a fresh year bring in good and auspicious tidings of good health, prosperity and peace to all of you and all your near and dear ones. May the blessings always remain with all of us.

Occasions have celebrations, and celebrations have symbols. And almost all of the celebrations have songs. Music is probably the most wondrous expression of a celebration, coming from the human spirit. And the celebration of the change of year is the most universal event that occurs across the globe. Songs galore exist in all languages and cultures for this occasion. And so do they exist in the Hindi film world.

This song, from almost 60 years ago, is a tremendous foot-tapping number that is almost certainly a party dance song. The film is ‘Samraat’ from 1954. This is a production from the house of Filmistan Limited, Bombay, directed by Najam Naqvi. The lead pair in this film is Rehana and Ajit, supported amongst others by Kamlesh Kumari, Ram Singh, Sapru, Randhir, Mumtaz Ali, Rajan Haksar, Kanu Roy, Srinath, Bhujbal Singh, SL Puri etc.The lyrics for the nine songs in this film are penned by Rajinder Krishan. It is very interesting to note that the music is composed by Hemant Kumar, supported by Ravi as the assistant music director. The number is very fast paced and racy, that will definitely set your feet tapping on the floor. The singing voice is that of Asha ji, naturally. 🙂

Greetings once again. . . and get set for more music, more songs, more adventure. HAPPY 2013.

HAVE heard this song on DD ages ago in a new year’s eve prog, where it used to be live at that time & they were showing a ‘Yeh Hain Asha’ Prog. Asha Bhonsle sang this song to usher in the New Year. (1985 i suppose). at that time i had thought that it was a Non film song. but it is good a song
