“Navrang” (1959) was a Rajkamal Pictures Production. It was produced and directed by V Shantaram. The movie had Mahipal, Sandhya, Nirmal Kumar, K. Date, Vandana, Agha, Baburao Pendharkar, Ullhas, Chandrakant Desai, Vatsala Deshmukh, etc in it.
Today (5 january 2013) is the 31st death anniversary of C Ramchandra (12 january 1928-5 january 1982). On this occasion, here is a song from “Navrang” (1959). This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle and C Ramchandra. Bharat Vyas is the lyricist. Music is composed by C Ramchandra.
The song is picturised on Mahipal and Sandhya.

This film is one of my all time favorite film. all songs from it are superb. and again i would say ‘how come this song was not posted till’!

Deshmukh Sir- i would request you to please add detail information on Shri.Mahipal, as there is no information of him on wikipedia and other. He himself was a good poet. and other thing i know is he was from Rajasthan.

Here is your farmaish-
MAHIPAL was a rare combination of talent.On one side he acted in mythological and Religious films,doing the roles of Vishnu,Ram,Krishna,even Narad,while on the other side he acted in many stunt and fantasy films doing roles of Alladin,Alibaba etc.He also acted in some social films.In short he was never Typecast.
Born as Mahipal Chandra Bhandari,on 24-11-1919,in Jodhpur,he was a poet since his college days.While in films,he wrote Lyrics for 4 films.In these,there was a song,”paa laagu” from film-Aap ki sewa mein,which was the FIRST ever Playback song of Lata Mangeshkar.With this one song,Mahipal has become a permanent member of History.As long as Lata M is discussed,his name will also be taken.
He became the FIRST Hero of a Rajasthani(Read Marwadi) film
NAZRANA in 1942.It was also his First Hindi film.In the begining itself he worked in the films of V.Shantaram and Sohrab Mody.His all initial films were Mythological.The first stunt film,Alladin aur Jadui chirag came in 1952.
He acted in 108 films.His best ever role was in Navrang-1959.He is one rare Hero who acted in almost all A Grade,B grade and C Grade Heroines in his career.
His last film was ‘Pathar ka khwaab’-1969 as a Hero,then he did side roles till his final film’Navratri’-1983.
He died on 15-5-2005.

Thank you very much Sir !!! i got to see many of the mythological films in which Mahipal played Vishnu and sometimes Naradmuni also ! But ‘Navrang’ and ‘Mahipal’ were made for each other, as was’Rajesh Khanna and Anand’.!!! thanks for the information Sir!!

It’s really surprising to learn that a true all rounder, C. Ramchandra / Chitlakar / Anna sahib, was only in his early 20s, when he changed the mood of Hindi film sangeet!
He was really a great composer!

Some seem to have thought highly of C.Ramachandra’s singing abilities. From an interview of V.A.K. Rangarao:
“Of the Indian male and female singers you have heard, who are your favourites?
When it comes to the male voice, it is unquestionably Singer-Music Director Chitalkar Ramchandra. I have around one hundred of his songs, both solos and duets. Actually, not many know that his first two films were in Tamil. He told me that he sang only when he could not get the singers he wanted. There is something delightfully off-the-cuff and spontaneous about his singing. In his own words, he never wished to polish a song to a jewel.
Of the female singers, my favourite is Geeta Dutt, even though she was not always on the sharp edge of sruti.”

” Rang de re,tan tarang de…Asha/Manna Dey :” seems to be favourite of V.A.K. Rangarao. He translated the lyrics into Telugu. It is on page 215 of his book ‘aalaapana’ (2003).
