Holi re holi rangon ki doli
Posted March 27, 2013
on:Today (27 march 2013) is the fifth occasion that this blog is celebrating the festival of Holi. When I look back at the previous Holi songs that were posted in the blog, I find some interesting statistics.
Year | Date of holi festival | Number of Holi songs posted |
---|---|---|
2009 | 11 march 2009 | 11 |
2010 | 1 march 2010 | 3 |
2011 | 20 march 2011 | 6 |
2012 | 8 march 2012 | 4 |
Looking at the list of Holi songs posted in the previous years, one can see that almost all well known Holi songs have been discussed in the past. 24 songs were posted during the last four occasions of Holi. During the first occasion, viz in 2009, I posted songs of the day of thefestival (11 march 2009) as well as on its eve on the earlier day. That is how I discussed 11 Holi songs in 2009.
Holi songs of Mother India, Navrang, Zakhmee, Sholay, Silsila, Mashaal, Phagun (1973), Baghbaan, Mangal Pandey, Kamchor and Kati Patang were discussed in 2009.
The first few months of 2010 saw the blog progressing at a crawling speed. The Holi festival of that month saw only three Holi songs discussed on 1 march 2010. The songs were from Aan, Godaan and Nadiya Ke Paar (1983).
2011 saw six Holi songs discussed on 20 march 2011. These songs were from Kohinoor, Naya Raasta, Baalika Badhu, Deshdrohi, Rajput and Darr.
2012 saw four Holi songs being discussed on 8 march 2012. These songs were from Suhaana Safar, Shagoon, Aakhir Kyon and Tilasmi Duniya.
If one thought that all Holi songs were already exhausted then there could be nothing further from the fact. We have already discussed seven Holi songs today and we can discuss more but I think 8 songs in a day is more than enough.
Here is the eighth Holi song of the day. This song in fact is one of the most well known Holi songs of all times and it certainly falls under the category of “how come this song was not yet discussed”. 🙂 The fact it, the lyrics of this song were sent to me last year itself but then I held it back for the next Holi occasion, which was 2013.
Much had happened in the intervening period. The video link had vanished and the audio link was never there on YT. All this came as a big surprise seeing what a popular Holi song it is.
Here is this Holi song from “Paraaya Dhan” (1971). This song is sung by Manna Dey, Asha Bhonsle and chorus. Anand Bakshi is the lyricist. Music is composed by R D Burman.
The song is picturised on Chinoo, Aruna(the Dancer), Om Prakash,Jayashree.T., Ajeet,Balraj Sahni etc.
Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.

WOW Derubalaji. What a treat. You have added the eighth colour in the rainbow. Everytime our famous singers sing in regional languages the songs become memorable and iconic automatically.

Thanks Derubalaji. Never heard this before. Devar-Bhabhi playing holi 🙂 Agree with Nitinbhai about famous singers singing the regional songs. It’s really a treat! Thanks again. I will share it with my family and friends.
