Maine sapna jo dekha hai raat

on:“Hanste Aansoo” (1950) was one of the first Hindi movies to get an Adult certificate from the censors. The reasons for getting A certificate those days used to be quite flimsy. For instance, “Barsaat” (1949) had become the first Hindi movie to get an A certificate. The reason why censors were provoked thus was that the female actors in the movies, viz Nargis, Nimmi etc are shown without dupattas and in one song there is even the talk of dupatta flying away in the breeze, viz. Hawa me udta jaaye mora laal dupatta malmal ka. 🙂 And the censors were righteously indignant about all this. 🙂
I have no idea what was the reason for “Hanste Aansoo” (1950) joining the ranks of “Barsaat” (1949) in getting this un coveted honour. I request our knowledgeable raeders to throw more light on this matter.
“Hanste Aansoo” (1950) was an Akash Chitra Production movie. It was directed by K B Lal. The movie had Motilal, Madhubala, Gope, Manorama, Mirza Musharaf, Jankidas etc in it.
Here is an archtypical puraani film ka geet from “Hanste Aansoo” (1950). It is sung by Rajkumari and Mukesh. This delightful song expresses the feelings of a girl who has fallen in love. Majrooh Sultanpuri, as was his wont has expresssed these tender feelings so well without needing to resort to heavy duty words.
Ghulam Mohammad is the music director.

Only the audio of this song is available and so it is not known how and on whom this song is picturised. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
ho maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
bhala ji koye poochhe
haan haan ji koyi poochhe to main kya kahoon
haaye maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
ho maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
bhala ji koye poochhe
haan haan ji koyi poochhe to main kya kahoon
haaye maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
ho o o o

dikhla de chitwan
behka mera man
aise na jaa baawri
dikhla ja chitwan
behka mera man
aise na jaa baawri
o o o o o
o o o o
ulfat hai mushqil
dhadke mora dil
haay dhadke mora dil
duniya hai bahut buri

kaahe pakda unhone ye haath
ho kaahe pakda unhone ye haath
bhala ji koyi poochhe
haan haan ji koyi poochhe to main kya kahoon
haaye maine sapna jo dekha hai raat
ye kaisi hasti (?)
dil mein hai masti
harsoo hai chhaayi bahaar
harsoo hai chhaayi bahaar
ye kaisi hasti (?)
dil mein hai masti
harsoo hai chhaayi bahaar
harsoo hai chhaayi bahaar
ae mori gori
ye chori chori
haaye ye chori chori
mujhse hua hai tujhko pyaar
kaaye
poochhe babul mere dil ki baat
poochhe babul mere dil ki baat
bolo ji koi bolo
bolo ji koi bolo
bhala ji koi poochhe to main kyaa kahoon
haaye maine sapna jo dekha hai raat

1. The reason for the certification is not to be found. But it does appear to be the first Hindi film, to receive an “Adult” (A) certificate following the amendment of the original Indian Cinematograph Act (1918) in December 1949 by which time “A” and “U” had been introduced. In all probabilities, the actual reason could be quite trivial.
2. Mukesh has sung quite a few duets for Ghulam Mohammed. But “Qismat mein yahi likkha thhaa” from the same film seems to be his only solo for the composer. Could anyone clarify this please.
3. We had no songs dedicated to Ghulam Mohammed on his death anniversary on 17th March. The anniversary dates list has been updated by Atulji to include the date. Some experts can still have a special writeup on the composer.
