“Rangeen Raaten” (1956) was an Ambitious Pictures Production. It was directed by Kidar Sharma. The movie had Shammi Kapoor, Geeta Bali, Mala Sinha, Chand Usmani, Pesi Patel, Rohit, Bhupendra Kapoor etc in it.

Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past. Here is the third song from the movie.

This song is sung by Lata and chorus. the song is lip synced by Mala Sinha in Lata ‘s voice though later a few lines are lip synced by Chand Usmani too.

Kidar Sharma is the lyricist. Music is composed by Roshan.

The flute playing clown is none other but Geeta Bali. Director Kidar Sharma had given her a roll of a village cranky boy.In the entire film to prove her versatile talent. Incidentally, during this film Geeta and Shammi Kapoor fell in love and got married.

‘रंगीन रातें’ से पहले ‘रोशन साहब’ का लाजवाब संगीत व्यावसायिक दृष्टि से उतना सफल नहीं हो रहा था जितना होना चाहिए था लेकिन १९५५-५६ के आस पास रोशन साहब के गीतों में भी वो व्यावसायिक लचीलापन और रिदम धीरे धीरे आनी शुरू हो गई जो आम आदमी की नब्ज को पकड़ सके ।
शायद इसीलिए एकदम १९५६ की वार्षिक बिनाका गीतमाला के गीतों में ‘रंगीन रातें’ का उनका गीत ”मोरे बालमा मोरे साजना हो, मैं नयन सजा के लाई …” दुसरी पायदान पर रहा । वाकई इस गीत की लचक, रिदम और कोरस तीनों ही मन को प्रफुलित कर भावविभोर करने वाले हैं ।
बाँसुरी और रोशन का तो जन्म जन्म का साथ लिखा हुआ था इसिलिए उनके गीत हों और मधुर बाँसुरी की ताने ना हो ये कैसे हो सकता है । इस गीत में भी बाँसुरी अति मधुर है और गीता बाली परदे पर माला सिन्हा जी के साथ इसे बजाने में व्यस्त हैं ।
किदार शर्मा जी के बोल भी मनोहारी लगते है जिनमे आम बोली की मिठ्ठी सुगंध और एक ही नाम के इतने सारे पर्यायवाची शब्दों का इस्तेमाल (रेलुआ, बेलुआ, बालमा, मानुआ) तथा साज सिंगार के सभी प्राकृतिक तरीकों का जिक्र बेहद लुभावना लगता है । ‘नयन सजा के लाई’ … ‘जुल्फ सजाई मोम लगाकर’… ‘लाल किया मुख पान चबाकर’… ‘मैं दमड़ी की गुड़िया तेरी’ जैसे शब्दों का इस्तेमाल भी बेमिसाल और यूनीक ही कहा जाएगा ।
लता जी की अठखेलियों का जिक्र ना ही करूं तो न्यायोचित रहेगा ।
