Atul’s Song A Day- A choice collection of Hindi Film & Non-Film Songs

Bheegi bheegi raaton mein

Posted on: May 27, 2013

This article is written by Pamir Harvey, a fellow enthusiast of Hindi movie music and a regular contributor to this blog.

Rains have always provided a nice frame for romance and thus in Indian films we find many rain or monsoon songs. There are rain songs, where the lovers meet, there are rain songs, where one lover is pining for his/her partner or rain songs which celebrates the coming of rain after a long dry season. The latter being less romantic and more practical.

The one featured here belongs to the classic lovers celebrating rain and love type. This is from the film Ajanabee (it IS spelled this way on the censor certificate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz130SBmDO4), released in 1974. The film pairs Rajesh Khanna with Zeenat Aman. Quite an unusual pair in a time, where he was mostly seen with Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore or Mumtaz. They would go on to do three more films as a romantic pair, but I think none of them fared as good as this film.

The film has a wonderful music score by R D Burman, of which two songs are already featured here. This would be the third one. This is a famous song and also many people’s favourite, so I was more than sure that this song would already be featured here.

For my friends living in India, a special gift in middle of summer. Hope it brings relief to them.

ambar khele holi ui maa
bheegi mori choli
hamjoli hamjoli ee ee
ambar khele holi ui maa
bheegi mori choli
hamjoli

saavan ke is mele mein
chhat pe akele mein

danke mien Harvey.

Just this morning I had hopes of a nice weather when I saw there were heavy clouds in the sky. It drizzled for a bit now and then, but by noon, all was clear 😦 and hot.

I wish ‘Amber’ would ‘khele holi’ soon.

I knew he had maximum roles with Mumtaz, but didn’t know that he had FOUR films with Smita Patil. And only two films with Asha Parekh! Wow, how one can be misled!
Thanks for the information Arunji!

I thought Dharmendra did max movies with Hema> some 20 movies

Yes, Dharmendra did almost 30 movies with Hema. But refer to the comments above. The discussion is related to Rajesh Khanna and maximum number of movies HE did with actresses he worked with. The discussion is not about Dharmendra or Hema Malini.

IMDB lists twenty films (see below) in which Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini starred together.
Of these six films have both of them or at least one of them in Guest/Special Appearance. Though in Andaz the characters they play are in love with each other.
In vijay (1988) they play a romantic pair but the scope of their roles is narrowlly bordered. I have no information about Suraag (1982), Sitapur Ki Geeta (1987) and Durgaa (1985). So there are at least 10 films where they play a romantic pair in full-fledged roles.

1. Naseeb (1981) Rajesh Khanna GA
2. Andaz (1971) Rajesh Khanna GA
3. Rajput (1982)
4. Vijay (1988)
5. Kudrat (1981)
6. Mehbooba (1976)
7. Suraag (1982) ??
8. Ginny Aur Johny (1976) GA
9. Bandish (1980)
10. Babu (1985)
11. Prem Nagar (1974)
12. Cinema Cinema (1979) GA
13. Hum Dono (1985)
14. Paap Ka Ant (1989) Rajesh Khanna Sp. Appearance (?)
15. Janta Hawaldar (1979)
16. Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein (1977)
17. Dard (1981)
18. Sitapur Ki Geeta (1987) ??
19. Tinku (1977) Special Appearance
20. Durgaa (1985) ??
