Gulzar’s third film, as a director, Parichay (1972) has often been accused of being a copy of The Sound of Music (1963). I think that this is too much of an exaggeration, since the only common thing between the stories of the two films being a teacher, who wins over his unruly wards. That is a common theme enough in films and novels. The whole context and the treatment of the story is completely different. All said and done one can’t deny that the song saa re ke saa re has a similarity to doe a deer. The similarity is not in the tune but in the sense that both songs explain the seven notes of music.
I don’t know how often I have listened to the song, but while I was transcribing the lyrics I noticed an anomaly in the lyrics or to be precise the way the song has been sung by the chorus. In the song Kishore Kumar sings some lines and the chorus repeats it. He sings re se reshmi kirno ne khoob kiyaa ujyaaraa but the chorus sings re se reshmi kirno ne door kiyaa ujyaaraa! Isn’t that amusing? But I’m not sure if this is really a mistake. Gulzar, who had a natural affinity towards children and knew their ways, is not above putting this ‘mistake’ intentionally in.

I love this song. I enjoyed the film as well. Yes, some funda of Sound of Music was taken for this movie, but they are QUITE dissimilar.
This was my favorite song in the film, as I was young when the film came out and I enjoyed this more.
You were not able to make out a word there? Why did you not ask me. Let me check it up in the evening.
