“Putlibai” (1972), though a recent movie by the standards of this blog has been all but forgotten. If this movie is still remembered by afew music lovers then that is mainly because of a timeless qawwali that this movie contained. This qawwali was Aise besharm aashiq hai ye aaj ke (Putlibai) by Yusuf Azad and Rashida Khatoon, two famous real life qawwaals of those days.
This movie had other nice songs in i, but they all found themselves overshadowed by the qawwali.
“Putlibai” (1972) was a B grade Daaku film. It was produced by B K Adarsh and directed by ashok Roy. The movie had Sujit Kumar, Jayamala(aka Jaimala), Meena T ,Suresh, Chandrashekhar, Leela Mishra, Hira Lal, Ram Mohan, Satyen Kappoo, Veena, Bhagwan Sinha, Badri Prasad, Altaf, Khurshid Khan, Laxmi Patel, Sherry, Uma Dutt, Kumud Tripathi, Jayashree.T etc in it.
Two songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.
Here is another song from this movie. This song is an outstanding song in its own merit- a forgotten gem in fact. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle. It is picturised as a mujra song on Jaimala, with Sujit Kumar, Chinoo, Mohan Sherry, Ram Mohan, Veena etc also visible in the picturisation.
Anjaan is the lyricist. Jai Kumar Parte, known simply as Jai Kumar, is the music director.
The lyrics of this rare song were sent to me by Prakashchandra. With this song, Prakashchandra now has 600 lyrics contributions in the blog ! And this incidentally happens to be the 2500th lyrics contribution of the blog ! It is an amazing achievement in any sense of the word.
