Aanchal se kyun baandh liya mujh pardesi ka pyaar

When he passed away twenty four years ago, in 1989, it was just one year after that he had received the national award for the Best Male Singer (1988). This was despite the fact that he had suffered a major heart attack in 1980, after which, many reviewers said that he was not his original self, and had lost the quality of his voice.
Remembering Hemant Da on the anniversary of his passing away, this day twenty four years ago.
For this remembrance, I have selected a very endearing and a very melodious non film song sung by him. The legacy of his renditions in films is no less in quality or in volumes, compare to his contemporaries. And surely, as always, the non films songs are really the more attractive fare, just for their simple pleasantness, and also that they are heard and played less often.
The references on YouTube document that the lyrics of this beautiful song are written by Hasrat JaipuriFaiyyaz Hashmi, and the music is composed by RaviKamal Dasgupta. The poet is expressing his fortitude by telling his lady love not to have tied her love to his wandering soul. But as the song comes to a close, he also expresses regret for having left, and says the words that she may not close the doors of her heart, almost as if beseeching her to wait for him.
Lovely words, and a very heartening rendition. Hemant Da at his simplest best. Enjoy.
Song-Aanchal se kyun baandh liya mujh pardesi ka pyaar (Hemant Kumar NFS)(1950) Singer-Hemant Kumar, Lyrics-Faiyyaz Hashmi, MD-Kamal Dasgupta
Lyrics
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar
jaane waale se rukne ki
jaane waale se rukne ki
aasha hai bekaar
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar
kal subho honay se pehle
karunga jaane ki tayyaari
kal subho honay se pehle
karunga jaane ki tayyaari
phir saara din dhal jaayega
phir saara din dhal jaayega
aur aayegi shaam andhiaari
khadi khadi tum raah takogi
khadi khadi tum raah takogi
rakh ke kamar par haath dabaa
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar
yun hi raat bhi aa jaayegi
lekin main nahin aaungaa
yun hi raat bhi aa jaayegi
lekin main nahin aaungaa
door padaa manzil mein kahin main
door padaa manzil mein kahin main
thak kar jab so jaaunga
meri kami mehsoos karogi
ro’ogi afsos karogi
meri kami mehsoos karogi
ro’ogi afsos karogi
bolo phir kya nirdayi keh kar
bolo phir kya nirdayi keh kar
band karogi khule dwaar
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar
aanchal se kyun baandh liya
mujh pardesi ka pyaar

Enjoyed the song but with a complain to Sudhir ji! Sir, it is very well known fact among Hemant da’s lovers that this song is composed by none other than Kamal Dasgupta & the lyrics are by Faiyaz Hashmi. Even on listening the composition and lyrics, it can be easily said that Neither this is of Ravi’s style nor Hasratsaab’s. Pl rectify this.

Biren ji, Rajnikumar ji,
Thanks for pointing out the error, and I stand corrected. Sometimes, I am too much in a hurry to get a write up posted on specific date, especially in late evening, and I tend to go with the more easily available info. The YouTube link carried incorrect info, and made the mistake of not cross checking and took it as it is.
I will try to check this tendency in the future. 🙂
Thanks again and apologies
Sudhir

There seems to be some great mis-understanding. One can very easily make out from diction of lyric and from the style of ‘DHHOON” that niether the lyric is by Hasarat jaipuri, nor the MD is Ravi. I have ascertained from the Volumn “TUm Pukaar Lo” by Mr Raj of delhi hat the words are of Faiyaaz Hashmi and Music is of none-other than Kamal Dasgupta,
Please modify the information-Thanks-Rajnikumar Pandya
