Here is the “P” song in the A-Z of Rafi songs series. This is a semi classical solo song composed by Laxmikant-Pyarelal in the film ‘Waapas” (1969). The lyricist of this song is the venerable poet Majrooh Sultabpuri. It is Majrooh’s birth anniversary today on 1st October, I have come to realise just now.
This movie has this fabulous Rafi-Lata duet which is already posted. Another well known solo from this movie is also posted here.
I had the song and lyrics ready since last week but never got around to writing the post. Today is a good time to post this song. The lead actor ‘Ajay’ is singing this song on stage in ‘Nagpur Sangeet Sammelan”. The audience appear to be standing around unconcerned at the beginning of the song, but soon settle down to enjoy as the song progresses.
It is true in every sense that when Rafi sahab sang, the world listened sometimes spellbound, sometimes amazed and mostly impressed. And those who are not, impressed I mean, I say ‘ unke Kanpur mein hartaal hai ‘ 🙂 .
So let us enjoy this ‘P” alphabet song in the series written by Majrooh Sahab on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

Nahm ji – ‘hamare kanpur mein to Rafi saab ki aawaz kuchh aisi bas gayi hain , jaise lagta hain ki wo hamaare paas hi hain aur abhi aakar hame chhu lenge’ ..!!

What a wonderful rendition by Rafi saab. Thank you nahm ji, that was PPPPerfect ;).
Now another 10 songs to go in the series. Wonder what songs are they would be :).
