“Railway Platform” (1955) was produced and directed by Ramesh Saigal. The movie had Sheila Ramani, Sunil Dutt, Nalini Jaiwant, Jagdeep, Johnny Walker, Manmohan Krishna, Raj Mehra, Leela Misra, Nishi, Nana Palsikar etc in it.

As many as eight songs from this movie including one multiple version song) have been discussed in the past. Here is the ninth song from the movie. This song is sung by Asha Bhonsle, S D Batish and chorus. The song is picturised on Nalini Jaiwant, Manmohan Krishna and others who are shown waiting interminably at a railway platform for their train. The song alternates between a bhajan (lip synced by Nalini Jaiwant and other devouts) and western style party song (lip synced by Sheila Ramani and other decadent non devouts). Those were the days when singing bhajan was consider signs of good upbringing and partying was considered signs of bad upbringing. The picturisation also shows Sunil Dutt leaving behnd the group of bhajan singers to the group of party revellers. He waits for the song to end and then slaps Sheila Ramani for her wayward ways. 🙂 The song picturisation ends there but I suppose that Shiela Ramani perhaps sees the errors of her ways and immediately gets transformed into a bhajan singing Bhartiya Naari as a result. I request our knowledgeable readers to help conform/ refute my guess.

PS-It turns out that the Bhajan and the western song are counted as two different songs and two separate records were issued for these two songs.

That being the case, this two part song (counting as two separate songs) means that all the ten songs from this movie have now been covered and this movie joins the ranks of movies with all their songs covered in the blog.

Sahir Ludhianvi is the lyricist. Music is composed by Madan Mohan.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.
