Today February 3rd is Deepti Naval’s birth day. It is a double pleasure for me, to wish her a long healthy and creative life as well as to present my second song in the series ‘Creations of Jaidev’.

Ankahee (The Unspoken) is a 1985 Indian Hindi film about astrology. Amol Palekar performed the triple role of Actor-Director-Producer. The star cast included Amol Palekar, Deepti Naval, Devika Mukherjee, Vinod Mehra, Dr. Shriram Lagoo and Dina Pathak. It was based on a Marathi-language play, ‘Kalay Tasmai Namaha’ by writer, C. T. Khanolkar. The film is also noted for its soundtrack, which won two awards at the 32nd National Film Awards, including Best Music Direction for Jaidev and Best Male Playback Singer for noted classical singer Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. The story by C. T. Khanolkar was also nominated for the best story category for 1985 Filmfare Award.

Deepti Naval is a polished artist and has been careful to select films with good theme and good directors. She has matured gracefully with advance age and performs superbly, as can be seen in her recent film ‘Listen Amaya’. I request some knowledgeable contributor to this blog to write about her life and work.

Jaidev, during his life span, had superb inimitable style, which was apparent even when he worked as an assistant director with Ustad Ali Akbar and Sachin Devbarman. He remained an exclusive music director for music lovers with good taste. He always used Indian music instruments and most of his tunes were based on Classical Ragas.

The selected song, appears in two parts in the film with same ‘mukhada’ but with different ‘antaraas’. The treatment of both parts, also differs entirely. The first part is a lilting tune and is performed with classic innocence by Deepti. Please note the style in the second part, which is a typical Gujarati folk tune, made very popular by Avinash Vyas – Asha team.

Bharat ji,

Thanks for the song. Deepti Naval – simple persona and impressive portrayals. A class by herself.

Thanks again.
