“Do Sitaare” (1951) was directed by D D Kashyap for Famous Pictures. The movie had Dev Anand, Suraiya, Kuldip Kaur, Baij Sharma, Prem Nath, Shakuntala etc in it.

Three songs from this movie have been discussed in the past.

Here is the fourth song from the movie. this song is sung by Suraiyya. Rajinder Krishan is the lyricist. Music is composed by Anil Biswas.

Only the audio of this song is available, but it is clear that the song is picturised on Suraiyya herself. It can also be guessed from the lyrics that this song is a sad lullaby song where a poor mother is trying to put her hungry child to bed. I request our knowledgeable readers to throw light on the picturisation of this song.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Nitin Shah.

Song-So ja re so ja bete gareeb ke (Do Sitaare)(1951) Singer-Suraiyya, Lyrics-Rajinder Krishan, MD-Anil Biswas

Lyrics(Provided by Nitin Shah)

so ja re so ja aa
bete gareeb ke
duniya ke sukh nahin tere naseeb ke
ho o o
ho o o o
so ja re so ja aa
bete gareeb ke
duniya ke sukh nahin tere naseeb ke
ho o o
ho o o

raat gareebon ki hoti hai
neend khushi ki sona aa aa
raat gareebon ki hoti hai
neend khushi ki sona
kal ka sooraj le aayega
phir se rona dhona re
so ja re so ja aa aa
kal ka sooraj le aayega
phir se rona dhona re
so ja re so ja aa
bete gareeb ke
duniya ke sukh nahin tere naseeb ke
ho o o
ho o o

bhookh tere bachpan ke saathi
aansoo tere khilaune ae ae
bhookh tere bachpan ke saathi
aansu tere khilaune
tu nirdhan ka laal hai
tere kaanton bhare bichhaune re
so ja re so ja aa
tu nirdhan ka laal hai
tere kaanton bhare bichhaune re
so ja re so ja aa
bete gareeb ke
duniya ke sukh nahin tere naseeb ke
ho o o
ho o o
ho o o
