Nainon se nain milaa ke – song no. 13
—————————————-

I have noticed only today in the stats page that Rafi Sahab has just crossed the milestone of 2200 songs in the blog. The event went unnoticed and unacknowledged. So it may be alright to celebrate the occasion with another Rafi duet song in this series. Point to be noted here is all solos by Rafi sahab that could have matched this theme were already covered in the blog, leaving a host of duets with less famous female singers, which I have covered in this series.

This song is deviating from the theme of ‘nainon se naina milaa ke’, with the words ‘ nainon’ and ‘nain’ replaced by ‘nazron’ and ‘nazar’, which is essentially the same thing. This song is from the film ‘Fariyaadi’ (1953). This song was under consideration to be part of this series, even earlier. But than I did not want to widen the theme. Or I will be spending years on this theme, what with the obsession of hindi film song makers with the words ‘aankhen’ ,nazren, nain and nigaahen. Not to mention chashm and a’in or a’yn, in persian and arabic. These words are leading me to chashma and ainak which are our good old humble spectacles.

A’in also seems to be closer to the word ‘ayeena’ meaning ‘mirror’ .

Mirror mirror on the wall…
Mirror Mirror On the Wall
Mirror Mirror
On the wall
I’m telling you my secrets
Once and for all

I really want you to see
The other side of me
Not my appearance
Somewhere behind the looks

I want you to know
That you know how I feel
You show me my expression
Everything is true
You never lie
Like most people do

Mirror Mirror
On the wall
I have no secrets
Because you know them all

(Helena Alvarez)

Eyes are the mirror of soul. Still the question is:

‘aayeena hamen dekh ke hairaan sa kyun hai ?’

Coming back to the song, this duet is sung by Mohammed Rafi and Promodini Desai for ‘Rehman’ and ‘Nimmi’ (As per the Rafi excel sheet). The lyricist is Muzaffar Shahjahanpur(Orkazai) and Music Director is Baldevnath Baali. This is an enjoyable duet, with Promodini Desai’s clear tones being the revelation. And 50’s Rafi sahab is vintage, as can be heard in this song. Qualitatively good enough to celebrate 2200 songs by Rafi sahab in the blog !

P. S. :
This is a one off deviation from ‘nainon se naina ‘ to ‘nazron se nazar’. The song no. 14 and 15 of the series are already finalised and there is no likelihood of extending this series beyond 15th song.

Song-Nazron Se nazar Ka Takraana…kya isko muhabbat kehte hain (Fariyaadi)(1953) Singers-Rafi, Promodini Desai, Lyrics-Muzaffar Shahjahanpur(Orkazai), MD-Baldev Nath Baali

Lyrics

Nazron se nazar ka takraana
aankhon mein kisi ka muskaana
nazron se nazar ka takraana
aankhon mien kisi ka muskaana
muskaa kar dil mein utar aana
ek meethha dard sa ban jaana
muskaa kar dil mein utar aana
ek meethha dard sa ban jaana
haay ban jaana
kya iss ko muhabbat
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain
kya iss ka naam muhabbat hai
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain

nazron se nazar jab takraayi
wo muskaaye main sharmaayi
nazron se nazar jab takraayi
wo muskaaye main sharmaayi
tasveer banaane waale ki
dil mein tasveer utar aayi
tasveer banaane waale ki
dil mein tasveer utar aayi
haay utar aayi
kya iss ko muhabbat
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain
kya iss ka naam muhabbat hai
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain

gesu unn ke zanjeer bane
masoom ishaare teer bane
tasveer kisi ki kya lete
ham dekh ke khud tasveer bane
tasveer bane
kya iss ko muhabbat
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain
kya iss ka naam muhabbat hai
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain

jab sab duniya so jaati hai
khaamosh fazaa ho jaati hai
mujhe unn ka khayaal aa jaata hai
mujhe unn ki yaad sataati hai
haay sataati hai
kya iss ko muhabbat
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain
kya iss ka naam muhabbat hai
kya iss ko muhabbat kehte hain
