“Memsaab” ( 1971), a lesser known movie than “Memsaab “(1956) was produced and directed by Atmaram for Guru Dutt Film Combines. The movie had Vinod Khanna, Yogita Bali, Bindu, Abhi Bhattacharya, Asrani,Meena T., Jayashree T., Asit Sen, Hercules, Jagdish Raj, Mac Mohan, Naval Kumar, Rajen Hakser, Rajan, Shakoor,Tarun Bose, Mridula, Ashoo, Tarun Bose, Mac Mohan,Jagdish Raj, Keshto Mukherjee etc in it.

Today (28 september 2014) is the birth anniversary of Lata. She has sung lots of well known, lesser known as well as obscure songs. She has
sung over five thousands songs in HFM and we in blog have covered about half of her songs(2712/2856). It means that we still have just under three thousand songs to chose from which will keep us busy for several years.

On the occasion of birth anniversary, here is an obscure song from this obscure movie. This song is sung as a haunting song by Lata and it is picturised on a mysterious looking Yogita Bali and Vinod Khanna pursues her from a distance. The picturisation is reminiscent of similar songs of the last decade where the hero (typically Biswajeet) would go after a spooky female figure singing at a distance. I must say that those older picturisations were more effective, mainly because the ghostly figure in those songs would be dressed in white. Yogita Bali dressed in purple saari is unable to create the same aura of spookiness that females dressed in white saari are able to bring in such picturisations. Perhaps the purpose of this song was different. In this song, Vinod Khanna actually manages to surprise the lady by closing in behind her unnoticed and they catches her by surprise just as she is about to conclude her lip syncing.

Lyrics of this song were written by Verma Malik. Music was composed by Sonik Omi.

Lyrics of this song were sent to me by Prakashchandra.
